We need a rethink...

Martinez was right in his comments after the game with regards to the terrible goals conceded. I would say on a normal day that game would have been 0-0. Is it RMs tactics at the back that are causing us to leak goals or has age caught up on this once tight central defence. One way or another he has to get new blood in and they have to be ready made. Doesn't help that Coleman and Baines are not the greatest defenders

I know its very frowned upon but it makes me wonder if anyone has gone to Roberto this season and said 'look boss, we were ace last season. We're not this season, its just not working. Lets try something different. I dont know, lets try....last seasons tactics maybe?'

Could see Baines saying that as he's lovable but wow, the personnel are there, so, if anything, its on Roberto.

We can sit here and discuss line ups or positioning but without pressure on the ball most top 10 sides in the prem will spank us like today home or away. This comes from the manager, if he set us up to press the ball higher up teams wouldn't be walking into our back 4

We need the manager to manage .
The players are going backwards at an alarming rate and thats a big worry.
The way we

We have conceded bad goals all season though its not a one off, there is a pattern and the manager can't see it.
Baines and coleman are playing nowhere near how they can and thats because of the clowns stupid tactics

We have an ageing squad that needs to be addressed in January not matter what bobby says. 6 players 30 or over in today's team. all defensive players besides eto'o. We are leaking nearly 2 goals a game especially 2nd half with tired legs. We have no leaders at the back. howard has been useless this season. distin and barry and baines down the left is slowing the team down. baines is not the same player without piennar who is not fit. could go on. but in simple terms we need youth.

This season has been a shambles before it even started, should the manager have been messing about at the World Cup on tv? Probably not. Should players be releasing books? It's pretty embarrassing, there doesn't seem to be any discipline at the moment, and its like players know they can take the piss a bit. Say what you want about Moyes, but he wouldn't have had players releasing books and taking the piss. I love Roberto, don't get me wrong but he needs to really get a grip of things or this season could end up a real shambles. Stop [Poor language removed] about with a crop of players who are 30+ and be a bit more flexible in his approach, and when can get back to our best.

He must shoulder a great proportion of the blame. Why play Distin and not Alcaraz or even Browning. I think he should use what he has more effectively.

i agree with red Nev on Sky we try to be too precise and are scared to play percentage passes, he who dares and all that stuff
this constant backwards sidewards passing malarkey waiting for teams to press us into mistakes is getting boring lets put some crosses in and let Rom earn his money

While the manager does have ultimate responsibility, I can't think of one player today that performed up to standard. And there weren't many on the bench that I could see doing better. Except some of the injured.

I don't see changing managers just to satisfy a desire for blood as sensible. Yet.

Home vs Away. No need for two holding players when playing at home against an inferior side. That's my take.

Of course when Barry is folding more than holding you're in trouble.

Very interested in what reaction and consequences there are Boxing Day. They are needed to keep the faith.
But just maybe individual performances are so bad because no one knows what they're supposed to be doing any more because of all the team changes and the lack of balance in the team selections. And maybe it's because we're not playing in tight knit groups and triangles any more, but instead all standing 15-20 yards apart so that most passes require more than one touch to keep the ball on the move.

A shambles indeed, from the manager's mini-sabbatical, through the amateurish organisation of the pre-season, through the lack of fitness, right through to the continual team changes and unchanging tactics.
