I generally leave all the bills to her so had absolutely no idea what it costs us per year for the 'arl council pop a.k.a. the wet stuff.
Anyroad, the bill came through the other day.....
6 months we used (2 adults, 2kids) - 63 Cubic Metres costing £103
Is that a lot of the stuff that we've used ?
They also bill you for taking away as much as comes out of the taps i.e. Same amount costing £84 so £168 a year, now they don't have a meter on what they take away and I'm fairly certain that of water that I drink my body will 'use some up' etc and not the same amount exits my property as comes in.
So.... Is £500 for the year (£42.30 per month) excessive ?
It's all a bit of a con really isn't it, charging you £80 a year to take away surface water that replenishes their supply and they then sell back to you, charging you for every drop (supply & removal) when you're only borrowing it in effect cos from their Bill they are saying that they get it all back.
Here in Brisbane, where it might not rain for 3 4 5 mths, unless there is a test match then it all comes down in 1 day. off my bill last year we pay between 62 and 89p dependent on usage ( at current exchange rates ) per Cu M
the 2 of us use 16 CuM per quarter, Yours seems like 'Kin robbery mate.
and if like us you use under the threshold, to encourage moderation, you don't pay, jack.
I remember the drought of 75-76
They had an enquiry and the verdict was that all the rain falls in the wrong place ( tell that to those in Somerset last winter ) what we need is a national grid for water like the leccy.
FFWD 20 yrs or so to the next drought, same enquiry, same result
sound of silence, tumbleweed etc
Around the late 80's there was a panorama or similar
The water companies said it would cost 53(?) p/L to get the water up to spec and 37p/L to give people bottled water, you can see where they are coming from pre privatisation.
