Was This Transfer Window THAT Bad?

Firstly, I think it's ludricous to suggest our board 'pushed' Arteta - it's pretty clear they rejected £10 million before Arteta decided to leave.

Now, for everyone who's been screaming PANIC PANIC. Moyes obviously doesn't care too much about Mikel, because he's got rid of him straight away as soon as Arteta said I want off'ski.

Remember the previous windows such as Lescott and Rooney? Moyes battled so hard to keep them and got a really good deal - yet with Mikel, it's a different story.

I'm not saying Arteta wasn't an important team player, but pretty obviously Arteta hasn't been up to scratch, he's 29 and was on massive wages.

I for one, think this hasn't been too bad of a window because we've offloaded a poor striker (in my opinion), another one who obviously had problems with following instructions and an injury prone midfielder - and brought in 2 completely fresh faces to the Premiere League until the end of the season.

And let's face it, we could've fared much worse - Jags, Baines, Fel and Osman?

Mikel Arteta was our most creative player for the last 6 years and has scored our only goal this Season.

We then got it a Dutch midget who sulked cos the fans booed him at Real, demanded he be sold or he would take them to Court, when in Holland and then went on strike when he wasnt paid in Spain, now I can see his point on the last point like.

Oh and a serial killer from Argentina.

So yeah, it was THAT bad.

(This is subject of course that our 2 great new signings fail)

We a surplus at CM so one of them had to go. Moyes doesn't sell anyone unless they want to go or unless he wants to. The board has never pressured him to sell anyone. I think the reason why he has stayed here so long was a handshake deal that while he'll never have much to spend he gets control of the players we do have.

Arteta's goal was a PK. Let's not blow him for it.

And yes, the Dutchman might be an ass, but as far as I can tell, all of his "issue" related to him not playing and/or being paid. If Moyes pencils him in on left wing, as he probably should, than all will be good.

People keep saying that we've sold Arteta without having a replacement sorted....step up £9m substitute, Dinyar Bilyetdinov.

Bily, Felli, Barkley, Osman, Rodwell are all central Midfielders....with other less preferable options such as Neville and Heitinga that can also play there, so it's no great loss. Those people that complain 10m fee was poor, list me some other 29.5 year old players that have commanded this type of fee?

Yakubu = Never, ever going to play for Moyes again anyway
Beckford = Clearly his bad attitude clashed with Moyes, and a below average premier league striker
Arteta = Nearly 30, 75k wages and certainly on a downward spiral of form and influence over games (at least in our team)

Just over 15m income through transfer fees, and another 8m shaved off the yearly wage bill. It doesn't matter that the 2 incoming players aren't owned by us...they are players all the same and will want to impress in the English league to get a move somewhere at the end of loan periods. In theory, next Summer or even in January, our financial situation will be much better because of these savings, and although not everything in the Everton garden is rosy, it's certainly gives the club more scope for future progression.

We lost a bunch of useful players and gained only loans. Whichever way you put it, it ain't been great.

And the problem with slating Beckford and Yakubu is they haven't been given a chance this year and we've basically reduced our options in an area of the pitch were we've been lacking. When you play Vic up front by itself, or bring on Fellaini as a striker you clearly aren't in a position to sell two strikers.

Now, when we have to freshen things up, we can't switch things about and try 4-4-2 ect because we'll have nothing on the bench, basically we'll have to go with either 4-5-1 or play Vic, ffs. And both of those things don't bloody work.

And if we were going to have to sell, we should have sold earlier. And, frankly, we should have sold Jags. Now we have 4 top quality central defenders and only one actual wide man.

The problem is Arteta was just about the only CM I would trust to be play on the wing. Osman, Rodwell, Bily etc can't.

But, my mad love for Mikel aside, Beckford is the one that really hurts us, to be honest.

I agree, however the moaners are meaning replacing a CM with a CM. Happy we've brought Drenthe in as his 'replacement', could do with a similar style player to him on the right, and a decent DR behind whoever that may be. The right of our team really let us down, and this forces us to go too narrow at times.

Hopefully Moyes will be given some cash for January, even if it's just to bring a recognised Striker or a RW in for the next part of the jigsaw....as good as loans are for the financial side of the club, it's a short term fix that eventually required a long term solution.

Its a massive blow and no mistake Mikel is a top top player, there are few of his ilk in the PL, so on balance overall the Transfer window has been a downer for me. I knew we would get a couple in, but the club werent expecting Arteta out - it served a purpose though.

I expected this to be his last year with us to be honest, but the loss in quality will hurt, as will his versatility - i would prefer him out on the left to Royston.

That said i remember the little lightweight spaniard we signed on loan, getting hammered on TW for not being Tommy G.

i think everone knew we'd lose a top player this window if we're honest but what cheesed me off tbh is the mugging we recievd and accepted from arsenal 10m seems to cheap to cheap lets use that wilson fella 8 m to stoke are we accepting the fact that a very average player like him commands such a fee?or are spurs better at tranfser valuations or my preferred choice is clubs intrested in our player's are now only to well aware of our finacial mess and well used it against us by offering a paltery sum in my eyes an to cap it comming in so late is a disgrace am sure they had his personnel terms in the bag long before the official offer came in. this then the player asking to move is a sh1te stunt to pull with 60mins or so to go in the window tbh ive seen him arteta in a new light

rant over for now

It was a pretty good window by typical Everton standards of misery, despair, death and misfortune. Losing Arteta is a sentimental kick in the baws but a good transfer almost certainly - we have midfielders who have it in them to create, they just need to stand up and do it.

It would be a terrible window if we were talking about a normal club - no attacking player of proven quality in the prem has been signed on a permanent basis.

My only worry is up top. I think we are putting a big bet on Denis settling in quick and producing the goods. I rate Saha but he is a gamble fo a whole season given his history, Vellios is untried, no kids coming through and Vic is....well Vic.

If Denis and Drenthe kick on I would be happy making drenthe's loan permanent (or extending his contract to 4 years) in Jan and hopefully Denis has a option to buy clause.

Not all bad, but waitin to see the impact of two new players who I know little about.

Also I think Yobo may go in Jan and I am not sure we will see Duffy pull on the Royl Blue of our great club I'm afraid.

Yer I think it has been bad in terms of the playing squad, we have lost Pienaar and Arteta in the last 6 months to teams we should be battling with for 4th spot. A year ago you would argue that they were our best players and certainly our most creative. We all know Arteta's not been the same player for the past year and has struggled with injuries and confidence but form is temporary, class is permanent. I'm not bothered about the Yak and overall I thought Beckford was poor and not good enough but there was no arguments that he did have a goal in him and gave us a option of having a forward who can get in behind defences which we now dont have. I dont really know anything about Denis and Drenthe was highly rated a few years ago, might be like a Arteta, Pienaar signing where the player has lost his way a bit, we'll just have to wait and see. So basically we have lost 2/3 key players and replaced them with two players who are a gamble and only on loan adding to the Blue Union meeting and other teams spending money especially them lot over the park, it has added a lot of negativity around the club.

The only good thing is we have made money and reduced the debt which we obviously needed to do but we can't continue like this every summer, whos next to leave Fellani? Baines? Barkley? Its getting behond a joke now and we desperately need a vision and plan for the future as we can't keep selling players in our already threadbare squad.
