Vinyl/Turntable Enthusiasts

Excellent post. I've heard very very expensive B&W , Focal.and Kef Blades in a Naim Statement system and none of them sounded as good as Quad ESLs.

I also loved Linn Isobarics but they have a very different sound signature.

Kudos on building your own speakers.
I've been running the ESLs for a while and really enjoying them. I upgraded and updated the input caps and replaced their mylar dust sheets ... very fiddly... and made an isolation stand for them.

Two mates who are really into hifi recently visited and insisted I wire up my open baffles for an AB comparison. They insisted mine were better (which is amazing as these are old school mates and it pains us to compliment one another!) but Im not convinced. The quads do imaging and transients so sweetly that the music just sounds more joyous to me. I played my own again for a few weeks and recently reverted to the quads. The differences are minimal really, but half the fun is spotting them.

God I'm a nerd.

You are indeed my friend but a knowledgeable nerd all the same.

I care not a jot for the technical details I just want to listen to great music on the best system , most lifelike reproduction that I can afford.

Realism has always been my goal too ... which is why ive always disliked bass ported. In fact I've even been around a few friends' houses armed with boxes of assorted rubber bungs to tame their wooly bass!

Thanks for all the advice. Im not a 'tech' guy or a 'nerd' so most of the stuff on here is way over my head.

Someone asked if I have a phono stage/preamp - yes I do and it supports both MM and MC cartridges - but after spending $900US on a cartridge - I wont be changing that out often! If at all.

Ill shop around...my room (dining room/living room) is open plan, about 600sq feet and my speakers will sit on the floor unless I decide to wall mount them).

Thirdly, it'd be a mighty big help to let on what you are planning to do, pipe and slippers, chesterfield leather button back chair, chuck some Doris Day on and hark back to happier times? Or are you planning on punishing the neighbours with some Scandinavian death sludge hard metal?
@Acrobat

certain kits fit certain soundscapes.
