Lib Dem Quisling though he is, hat's off to him for his thoughts on that Murdoch [Poor language removed] caught on tape. He's 'declared war' on him: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-12053656

No doubt the reporters were put up to it by News International, like.

It's weird.

You know my views. I do think Murdoch's got too much power in UK media.

But I can't believe the Labour lot have jumped on this as if it's an issue?

If you listen to his quotes he says the Murdoch papers say he's "declared war on them".

Basically the SkyNews coverage now is all political in favour of Murdoch. Its disgusting really.

And Labour shouldn't be supporting Murdoch by default. They should be saying - well it's gone to Ofcom now anyway.

Cable's been a right ted though.

But it's like snipes all over the show. With 24h news Sky - taking Murdoch's case to the masses. Which it really shouldn't be. Gone to Ofcom.

THE END.

But for me Murdoch's got TOO MUCH POWER in our media.

Same for when Branson tried to buy ITV. Murdoch's lot stopped that from happening.

Murdoch's lot did that in. Which was ANTI COMPETITIVE.

The EU commission DG should investigate Murdoch over that IMHO.

I agree with you here on Labour's response. They've took the attitude of Cable not being fit for office, when they should be saying that he's right to have that attitude and his instincts were correct. Of course, Labour are still shockingly kow-towing to the Murdoch empire, hoping that it'll ditch the Tories and take up with them again - hence the poor response.

I know. This cow towing of the political parties to the murdoch media is damaging British politics ... ON TOP OF Murdoch's damage to the British media competition.

Murdoch will have ITV soon too. He's a festering boil on the skin of democracy. He should be lanced.

I agree and that should not happen.

Branson should have been allowed to buy the company. By allowing the purchase by News Corp to block it.

It was anti-competitive in the media market.

Which is contrary to EU competition law.

MONOPOLIES ARE ILLEGAL IN THE EU.

I really don't get this reaction to Murdoch. Sure the guy has a lot of power and does wield that to achieve a large degree of influence, but we're the ones that grant him that power by buying his newspapers and subscribing to his tv stations. If we didn't do that he'd have none at all. Look at Myspace. Hardly anyone uses it. If people want to stop him having influence then stopping them buying up the rest of Sky is a poor way of doing so, not buying his products would be much more effective.

Lets face it, you have no such freedom if you don't want to 'consume' the BBC. You'd have to give up your television. For what it's worth I personally think the BBC is probably the best of the tv broadcasters out there but you can see my point.

Agreed on the BBC, but the point was made about lack of competition, he knows he's got a monopoly on the press and media and he abuses it for his own means. When people buy that product off him they do it in good faith and instead it's tinted with his own political views or interests.

In short, he's a fat detestable [Poor language removed] who I hope suffers some pain.

Yeah but what do people buy in good faith? The Sun? The News of the World? People buy that garbage for their serious reporting? The Times you could perhaps argue but even then you have competition amongst the broadsheets from the Telegraph and the Guardian, not to mention plenty of current affairs magazines (Spectator, Economist et al). If you don't want to consume his media show some willpower and say no. He's not forcing you and you're not a sheep!

As for a monopoly, if you were talking about football then sure you could argue that as bootleg feeds aside you don't have that much choice. For news though what's the issue? You still have the BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5, the [Poor language removed] load of websites offering news. Not as though alternatives don't exist.

Some folks make him sound like this guy

Spoken like a true Tory*. Sure thing no, but what about the primary source of news that people use? The TV? He should follow the great British news tradition of impartiality but instead he puts views on people who are indeed sheep. As what showed in the last election.

* did that work?

This true Tory agreed with Davek.

So it says alot if both sides of the spectrum think Murdoch's monopoly of the British media is a bad thing for our society.

I'm not sure what you're going on about with the rest...

I'm saying he should never of been allowed to buy ITV's shares.

That much is for certain.

And this attack on Cable. Is showing the undue influence Murdoch has on the media arena in our country.

Which is too powerful.. too much say.

He most certainly not should be allowed to have even more say.

Yeah but how many people use Sky News as their primary source of tv news? I'd hazard a guess that it's a very small number. They do have a larger share of the newspaper market but this deal wouldn't change that at all. Seriously people, grow some balls and vote with your feet if you don't want something. Go and read a book or something instead. You don't need the idiot box to rule your life.
