Victor Pulls out!

the england selectors have made such a hash over selection for such a long time that perhaps the safe and in his case honourable choice was to stand by his nigerian birthplace.

Anichebe is not good enough for England. He is an impact player in the last 10 minutes, but International football is different.

However, Crouch isn't good enough and he has scored shed loads of goals for England.

I think when you have players like Rooney, Owen, Defoe, Bent, Walcott etc.... its hard to get involved. You need to be either at the big clubs, or be amazing, and a few goals in the last few minutes of games isn't going to force McClaren's hand.

Thing is though Ghost, Anichebe is a completely different type of striker.

Why did Heskey get a call up the other month?

No one knows if hes good enough yet, but if he's not good enough to play upfront for England, is he good enough for Nigeria?

At least he would offer something different to England, the same couldn't be said about Nigeria.

Yes but players don't get called up based on club in Nigeria.

It took Joleon ages to get the call up, he has been outstanding all of last season and all this season.

Heskey got called into England initially because of his club, same as Crouch. (although he may have been at Saints when he first got in the squad, but as soon as he got to Liverpool, bang he was in the first team.)

I think Victor could do a job for England, but then I thought the same thing about AJ, and to be honest he never ripped up any trees while playing for England.

This is how you get in the England side.

Path 1 - Play for one of the so-called top 4 sides.

Path 2 - Have played for one of the so-called top 4 sides.

Path 3 - Be Amazing, Be the only option available so you can't be ignored.

Unfortunately you may be a better player than those who get in via Path's 1 and 2, but it doesn't matter - you are last choice. Look at Barry now? Looks like he was just keeping Lampard's place warm. Ok so Lampard is playing well for Chelsea, but Barry played better than Lampard has done in the past year for England.

I honestly can't believe we are even discussing this. We all know the inevitability of England selections.

Joleon is only playing because Terry and Ferdinand are injured/banned. If Carragher hadn't retired, he would be there instead of Joleon, that is a dead on cert.

Arteta has been named Midfielder of the Year by Sky last season, beating Ronaldo, Gerrard and Lampard, oh and Alonso too.

He ha just been named NW Player of the Year, beating Ronaldo, Gerrard and who else? Oh year Alonso.

So why the [Poor language removed] is Alonso in the side ahead of Arteta? Why isn't Arteta getting the acclaim he so richly deserves? Because he plays for a team outside of the Top 4. Guaranteed if he went to Liverpool he gets picked.

True about Barry. He played his socks off and deserves a starting spot. Do you think Walcott would have gone to the World Cup if he wasnt a gunner?

Good post.

Well, nice to see you nailing your colours to the mast. There is no [Poor language removed] way Peter Crouch is a better player than Anichebe. No way.

Victor scores goals in important games, Crouch scores goals against Jamaica.

Your going to be telling me next that Alonso is better than Arteta!

Your confusing me Ghost.

Earlier you said Anichebe is not good enough for England, but now your argument is Anichebe is better than Crouch so should be in the England squad?

Or have I got the wrong idea?

I don't think Anichebe is good enough for England, not yet, but I still think he is better than Crouch and I would never ever say otherwise.

The fact that Crouch gets selected is purely and squarely on his club side.
