Extortionate or what? Had to have my cat put down last night and got charged £83 for the privilege.
Just a Euthanasia injection, no cremation or disposal, just the injection. We were all a bit upset and just accepted it, but thinking about it more rationally today does a vets time (5 mins) and an injection really warrant that sort of charge?
Rip-off Britain. I agree its an utterly ludicrous price, but this is Britain, and they know you'll pay any price for a pet's "wellbeing". Here we have a national psyche that domestic animals are almost bigger than family. After all, if you aren't prepared to pay then there must be something wrong with the way you love your pet.
OK so vets have years of training so can justify their fees somewhat. However the vet my dog goes to (he HAS to go to that vet as the missus' bestie used to be the receptionist there) doesn't lose a seconds' sleep trying to pedal some drug or other on us, each visit, because he knows the insurers will pick up the bill (as I pick up the increased insurance premium).
I lost all faith in him and his training when he started suggesting homeopathic remedies (his girl friend was into them, don't you know). As a scientist myself I saw this as utter nonsense, and unprofessional.
I do not accept that drugs required to put an animal to sleep are expensive. They have been around for many years, therefore any research costs are in the past and the chemical itself (pence worth) will be surely out of patent / licence. It the same with human medicines, you can choose to pay £6 for nurofen, or now its patent is expired, 16p for the identical ibuprofen.
I'm afraid that, like many people with a bit of training, it's a licence to print money. Makes you appreciate having the NHS.
£86 Cheaper than 5 minutes of a plumber's time though.
