VAR

It feels now its gone way past being for clear and obvious errors. When i was growing up all the referees were those who couldnt get a game as they had two left feet. But were determined to be involved. Preferably in charge. What was an OK idea in light principle has turned into a pedantic pain in the arse because of the Martins from Ever decreasing circles simply cant sit in a room and not make it about them.
VAR check on literally every goal now is all about the Martins.

Softest VAR decision of the week.

"Hand in unnatural position"

This is where VAR fails.

The forward heads the ball from a corner
It hits the defenders head a foot away
and deflects onto his arm.

If you are Arsenal you get these to keep the happy clappers happy.

No one wants to see this spoil a game.
Well, maybe Keown.

It's ridiculous the hand ball laws in Europe, makes many games farcical

I suspect var wouldn't have called the third one offside if it hadn't been flagged

Think we were a bit unlucky there but the others were pretty clear.
Thought the first two were pretty clear cut.

The third one reminded me a bit of the away derby last year when Tarkowski went to play the ball because it was going to a player who was offside (but wasn't given). Not sure what the difference was there versus yesterday.

Whenever they show a VAR offside decision the graphics they show are 100% useless and prove nothing because they don't show that it was the exact moment the ball was played. The majority of the time they don't even show the player playing the ball, its just a line drawn across the backline.

And how do you even calculate the exact moment the ball was played anyway? Is it the moment there isn't a single atom of the ball in contact with the players foot?

The whole thing is nonsense anyway but just thought I'd add that.

If they would consistently call offside for those kind of incidents then I'd have no problem. Players shouldn't be standing offside in the 6 yard box regardless of whether they are blocking the keeper.

The problem is that there is no consistency and far too much subjectivity

If your stood in the 6 yard box, chances are the keeper is fully aware your there and will make a decision debased upon that. Fairly simple to add that in for clarity. If your offside inside the 6 yard box, even if the other side of it, your offside. Full stop.

I see Webb has wheeled himself out on tv following the uproar over that lot yesterday, but this bit is interesting…

“Slot compared the decision to the one that went in favour of Manchester City last season when John Stones headed in a late winner at Wolves despite Bernardo Silva standing in a similar position in front of goalkeeper Jose Sa.

Webb said: "There's a clear difference here in that the ball goes directly over Sa's head and doesn't go over the head of Silva. He is in an offside position, importantly he moves away from the flight of the ball.”

So explain to me how the goal against Spurs was different again Mr Webb.

Make it up as they go along….
