Van Der Meyde Back from the wilderness

if a player is 10 years old and has immense skill and capability, play him.

we can all pick out the rooneys, kendalls, peles, ronaldos (the fat brazilian one from 94) messis and vaughans.

lets not fool ourselves into thinking we have a great deal of world class talent, especially not in depth for the bench.

You missing some thing here Ichigo. Why was VDM on the bench? Must have impressed Moyes enough to be there or are you saying Moyes was just pissing him off by using up a sub space for a player that we might actually need on the field. You can't have it both ways.

He was on the bench because Osman and AJ are injured and our young lads don't have much 1st team experience between them.
For VDM just being on the bench, by hook or by crook, it is step 1 of getting back to being able to perform his function for the team he plays for.

Which team is that then:P

Instead of piling in defenders then, VDM should have been given a chance for say the last 5/10 minutes and take the game to Boro.

Not another chance for the drunk, he was only on the bench because of injuries, I wouldn't trust him with the drinks, even at the match!

I think on this one i agree with moyes... for the last 20 minutes at 2-0 up, you want to consolidate, not speculate. bringing on yobo and pushing baines into left mid does two things - have a look see how baines fairs in a more advanced role, which is worth seeing as he gets forward well from left back, and also makes us stronger defensively. putting on vdm would be nice and all, but it would only make us weaker defensively and who can say what it would have done for us going forward, but at that point in the game scoring more goals was not a priority, but not conceding was. if moyes had brought him on and then we'd conceded (espec if vdm had been someway culpable) imagine the outcry on here?!?

Exactly the points I would have made if you hadn't.

Yeah I had considered that. Still not too sure about pushing left backs in to midfield though.

The point was Moyes was piling defenders in to stop Boro which is IMO inline with Moyes philosophy of defend, defend, defend and you can't have too many defenders.

Depends on the defender. In Baines' case i think he has enough ability going forward that it is worth trying him there in such situations to see how he fares. And its not like Moyes hasn't tried it before.

I've mentioned that in other threads and yes it has to be worth considering(y)
