The more I think about the name on Wednesday, the more I have to literally stop myself from being supremely optimistic and confident.

Of course, they have two of the best strikers in Europe, but the question is - what else have they got?

The Uniteds of old had the players to dominate the midfield of a game, suffocating the opposition and then relying on individual brilliance to get the goals.

I look at Utd, specifically in the centre of midfield where we are so strong, and it just seems that apart from the front two, they really don't have anything to fear.

Their defence can be got at, particularly with pace as shown v Cardiff. The wingers are majorly out of form, and again the centre midfielders, whichever they choose with Carrick out will either consist of 76 year old Ryan Giggs and CB by trade Phil Jones or their other combo of Cleverley and Fellaini.

I reckon we could see Barkley return and drop in a bit deeper alongside McCarthy, with Barry man marking Rooney, leaving RVP against 2 of our CBs.

What do we think blues, could it be the first time in 12 years that we can go there and get a positive result?

It's Roberto that has done this to me, the fantastic, optimistic, sexy coaching Catalan.

(Powers that be, please feel free to merge this thread with Chicos once the entertaining match preview has been posted.)

We're f*cked now then.

Nah, I know what you mean pal. Dead confident we'll go there and actually play them off the park for a change.

Attacking play, goal gluts, confidence?

WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?

About time, like. Not won at Old Trafford since 1992. Time for a change, I think.

There's a smaller gap in terms of ability between us and Utd than there was between us and Wigan, so I've got faith in Boberto.

man utds squad have never scared me but they have workhorses and technically gifted players like valencia and kagawa that have managed to grind out results for them in the past and their gritty never die attitude

we will have our work cut out but we can definately get a result there.

Look at the teams who've got something from Old Trafford - West Brom this season, Blackburn, etc. all went to attack and surprised United.

United probably think 'yeah, the usual, they defend well for 75 minutes before we score and end up winning 2-0 with goals in the 75th and 84th', then when teams go to attack them they're like 'what?'

Write off Utd at your own risk

They still have good players, Two world class players in RVP and Rooney

The have had some bad results for them but they have just beaten Leverkusen 5-0 away from home

Really? Coz they terrified me 1997-2003.

For the first time that I can remember we will be going to old trafford actually expecting something from the game! We have a better starting 11 than them in my honest opinion and our midfield should win that battle the way they are playing. Is the game on tv at all?

Agreed mate, they've still got a few very good players, but did you see the Leverkusen game? I'm not exaggerating when I say they were as bad as Stoke today.

I dont think we'll have too much joy there, tbh.

I know we're flying at the minute, but they are desperate for three points to stay even within peering distance of Arsenal now. I can see us facing their very best team and it'll be difficult to handle both Rooney and van Persie and get some momentum going out of defence. Those two will be pressing all night.

United followed by Arsenal less than 4 days later is going to be unbelievably tough. I can see us coming out of those with just a point, tbh. If we do better than that it'll be very welcome.
