Usmanov

Indeed but with Usmanov backing us from afar we have a realistic chance of bridging that gap.
In fact, if Usmanov was inclined to be a benefactor like Abramovitch we'd certainly bridge it and go well beyond.
No reason to assume that's Usmanov's intention but whatever the case it appears we're in a stronger financial position than we've been in in decades.

looking at pure facts, Usmanov is sponsoring a rival.

we may not be rivals as such for the league, but cups and even if we beat arsenal and they lose out in the title race, its a massive conflict of interest's.

this is not done just for the sake of it. its a calculated move. Usmanov doesnt need to be sponsoring any other team. to be sponsoring a premier league team is extraordinary.

I'd disagree on that.

I think it makes a lot of sense for someone who can't have any real influence at Arsenal to politely push his toe towards the table at Everton.

If Usamnov is indirectly involved with Everton with this sort of deal it means if he ever decides to sell up at Arsenal, but still wants to be involved with a footie club, then he's cemented a working relationship with someone he already knows and trusts extremely well.

That doesn't mean he's going to sell up at Arsenal. He may even be using us a bit to try and influence the situation at Arsenal.

Not sure this stacks up Woolly. As a long standing business partner of Moshiri, and indeed being the man who gave Moshiri a real break in the business world, Usmanov has no real commercial need to "cement a working relationship" as a contingency plan. The working relationship is as strong as it will ever be and Usmanov could walk into Everton now or in 10 years with Moshiri irrespective of this deal.

I also doubt he's using it as any sort of leverage at Arsenal because ultimately, how is him acquiring sponsor rights for a rival premier league football club going to enhance his position? Kroenke will not be remotely threatened by it.

More than double the shirt sponsorship if accurate (not 300% claimed but big jump).
That means £4m per season for FF if your figures are correct. Haven't seen that published anywhere.

The Echo are saying it's a 20 million deal, but I suspect they're just doing some simple maths on the overalll 75 million and have made an educated guess, which won't be far off.

Lighten up, mate.

It isn't often we have anything to be happy about.

Mate, I am honestly delighted but I feel for the fans who are shouting from the rooftops that we are getting £75mill for our training facility - they will only come back to earth with a bump and look a bit silly. I just want people to be just as delighted with the facts.

That would be right. £20mill over 5 years for FF, leaving £55mill over 5 years for the shirt sponsor = £11mill per season. I dont think its that bad considering Spurs have the London factor and CL football.

could you ever imagine the glaziers ploughing some money in to southampton, so they could get their name on the training ground and shirt???

when you are as wealthy as they are there is absolutly no need or no point in doing so.

same applies to Usmanov, even if he is friendly with moshiri.

They are Bezzie mates this is as on as it gets.

admitted Usmanov was the primary reason for his initial investment in English football. “The reason I got into Arsenal was because my business partner is a crazy fan of Arsenal and we do most things together,” he said. “I had looked at a number of clubs [to become a major shareholder] having been at Arsenal for a long time as a minor shareholder.”

Everton have not announced the value of the USM partnership but their chief executive, Robert Elstone, told the AGM the club had signed two “high-value” commercial deals in recent weeks – naming rights for the training ground plus a shirt sponsorship deal – worth a total of £75m over the next five years.

Fair points mate, but if USM is closely linked via sponsorship then it stops someone else doing the same.

On the Arsenal bit, I was actually thinking more about it being a little bit of an "Up yours" statement to Kroenke than anything else.

On ownership ... time will tell on this one, and when I say time I'm thinking of years, not months.

Surely the only way you would want to get around the fair play rules etc is if you wanted to spend big? If you were not going to spend, you could get any sponsor for FF I would have thought. There has to be a reason why its USM Holdings.

Now that they are an official sponsor, can they put more money into the club vis 'matchday', 'billboard' sponsoring etc or is that inclusive?
