Look at the stats... only FIVE clubs in the prem have conceded less goals than we have (no, Newcastle (Krul) and Swansea (Vorm) are not one of them):

Man City (19)
Liverpool (21)
Man U (24)
Sunderland (24)
Tottenham (25)
Everton (27)

And only TWO clubs have scored LESS goals than we have (Stoke with 23, and Wigan with 21... Everton has 24)...

How can anyone justify worrying about finding another GK when in terms of conceding goals, Everton is right up near the top of the list with conceding the least amount of goals this season (Chelsea has given up more goals than we have ffs)....

Alternatively, we are right there at the bottom of the list in goals scored this season with 24... how on earth does it make sense to complain about our GK? If we were scoring goals at the same rate as the likes of Sunderland (33), Blackburn (34), or Norwich (34) - not too much to ask if you ask me - surely we could convert at least 2 or 3 of our 10 losses to at least draw, and 1 or 2 of our 6 draws to a win... if that were the case we would very conceivably be level on points with Arsenal and Liverpool and in the fight for 4th place....

If we're talking about needing to find new players, goal-scorers/goal-creators MUST be the focus... Tim Howard has more than proven to be on par with the top shot-stoppers in the league to keep us fighting for a top 4 finish.

Thats some nice insight there but it must be remembered that just because you have a good defensive record doesnt automatically mean you have a good goalkeeper. The defence could be good or more importantly with us you dont really need to score many goals to beat us.

Im really just playing devils advocate though because I do like Howard. He is decent enough in general but like anyone else in our squad I dont think his position in the team should be untouchable.

TBH that's a flawed argument for E.G I think personally it's down to having a very good back four as oppose to Tim Howard, but as much as I think Howard is about average, signing a reliable goalkeeper now days is not an easy task, just ask the best manager of all time IMO up the east lancs, he'll tell ya, the financial state our club's in tell's us Tim Howard is good enough for the time being , and yes scoring goals is the main problem which needs addressing ASAP, but back to our keeper 1 minute he can keep you in the game with a great save, and the next minute cost you the game, I hate him coming for crosses, he has this thing in his head he has to punch every cross , scares the life out of me but only half as much as seeing Phil Neville and Tony Hibbert trying to play 1 / 2's with each other inside our own half

Personally i would throw 6 mill at Brum for Ben Foster and have done with it for the next 10 years - i see the flaw in my plan as well.

Agree with all of this. But what frustrates me most about Howard is the poor distribution. That's not as important as his trouble with long balls and his lack of presence in the box, but tbh those things can't really be taught/changed especially at this stage of his career. But watching him waive off his defenders, bounce the ball around 14 times, take a deep breath, click his heels, stop for a pint and some chips, and then, and only then, launch the ball to the other side...well, that just puts me over the edge. FFS Howard, hurry up and distribute the *&)*(& ball! Remember that WC game against Algeria?! (When you did it only because the game was in stoppage time?) You're killing any chance to counterattack!

This is a mental issue, not a reaction problem, and surely Moyes or Klinsmann or someone, even a mediocre coach like Bradley, can tell him to stop holding the ball and constantly waiving off his own players who are calling for it just to give it to the other side?

Yes, Kay and others, he does the same thing for the USA team and I'm guessing it's 90% of the time whether it's his club or national side. In the end, he's ok and we've got more pressing needs, but he's not one of the world's best keepers by a long stretch.

A couple of years ago I used to think Foster was going to be England's No1 for many a year, but more recently i'am not sure he's that much better than Howard, that's the problem see, although I don't feel overly confident with Howard I can't name too many more who we could attract who could do a better job, I often find myself feeling the exact same about David Moyes like wise .......

Haha exactly mate and the other side to it is when there's no counter attack on he throws it out to Hibbert or Neville and puts us right under pressure, decision making is very rash, but when clubs like United and Arsenal are struggling for a reliable goal keeper what chance have we all got

He's no better than Howard but would cost a lot more.

Understood, defense plays a huge role in conceded goals, but that in and of itself is not my point... The point is as far as GK/defensive players we are covered... scoring goals up front, WE ARE NOT... so don't waste that 6mil or what have you on another goal keeper, we have to focus on bringing people that can get goals, plain and simple. We have holes in the squad, no doubt about it, but it makes no sense to throw what little money we have to cover the smallest ones and let the big ones continue to let us flounder....

Agreed. Hopefully Jelavic will plug that gap.
