in memoriam - 1965-2024
Legend has it that after Led Zeps performance as support for Iron Butterfly, (big at the time), in 1969, IB were not keen on taking the stage as the headliners. (see Led Zep are boss thread).

I saw Reginald D Hunter last week, and his warm up/support act was an aussie guy called Steve Hughes. Blimey, he was absolutley brilliant, and totally overshadowed RDH.

1. Anyone else seen this guy? (If you havnt, he is touring in the new year).
2. Other examples of being upstaged.

I recall my dad saying that he saw Cast support Soul Asylum, and Cast blew them out of the water.

From my own experience, People In Planes beat Funeral For a Friend hands down when I saw them.

Strange, I really rate Reginald D Hunter too. This Hughes lad must be sensational.

The Fritzl sketch Hunter does gets me everytime I see it ^^

Went to watch Oasis way back in the day, at knebworth, all dayer, with lots of outstanding support acts.

After spending all day sampling various non prescribed drugs The Prodigy where the last Band on before Oasis, having just dropped a few little fellas and danced like a crazied lunatic, Oasis came on and it felt like somebody had let the tyres out of my bike.

Tyres out of your bike, they must have been some boss disco buiscuits mate

Aww come on man, most of the crowd started singing "footballs coming home" when the Prodigy were on, when the big beach ball was getting bounced about !!

Dunno mate, dont recall any beach ball.

We went on the Saturday and managed to scam our way into the VIP section, so was quite near the front, but in between dancing, spent a lot of time leaning on the crash barrier behind us, jaw all over the place.

Was a great day tho.

Yeah same here, was there on the sat.

Prodigy are/were boss, seen them numerous times. Best time at the Drome in Birkenhead.

Think I'd moved on from me techno dancing days and into me indie kid/Oasis head ways by the time of Knebworth though.

A great day indeed.

The Drome was boss as well, used to go all the time, many a happy night had there, Carl Cox stands out and Scooter was also a good show, got a bit snide near the end, the whole Birkenhead vs Scousers thing went crazy.

Of course Wool Rule was achieved in the end!!!

haha ok. Maybe when the scousers had got bored of it.

Remember the Carl Cox night, there was a guy outside arguing with a bouncer that he couldn't wait in the que as he was M.C. Magika !!! turns out he was too.

Davey Graham was THE man though !!!

Them where the days tho, we used to hire a transit and go Bowlers in Manchester, Kinetic in Stoke, I recall 1 night, went to Kenetic and was locking up the van, all the tribe went off ahead and managed to Q jump by the time I got there, caused a right fuss, so by the time I got there the bouncers where on me like a shot when I tried it, so I decided to drop a few little fellas to liven up the Q.

An hour later, doors got closed with me in spitting distance, so I went back the van and dropped more, an hour later everybody came back, said they missed me, later found out they got chucked out for causing mayhem, so anyway, we decided to go Home.

Picture the scene, heavy snow and I mean heavy, 4 little fellas working their magic, driving up the M6 in a Transit, I saw 12 lanes of Motorway and that was when the screen wasnt full of snow, not quite sure how we got Home that night.

Good times.
