Unsworth should have been kept in charge

If we are going to wallow in the "we should have" world of fantasies, the we should have kept Roberto, should have kept Koeman, should have kept Unsworth. Next season if we go down some will be saying "we should have kept Big Sam". A pointless fantasy to be honest.

What's DCL - Holgate - Beni - Lookman done so wrong not to get into that team of pensioners?
I don't know what the pension age is in your world Joey, but the average age of the starting 11 on Saturday was under 27 (Rooney and Williams being 32 and 33 respectively) and the average age of the final 11 was just over 25. But perhaps you think we shouldn't play anybody over the age of 20?

We’ll never go down, that I am confident of. I have followed Football a long time and during that time only two clubs have remained continuously in the top division and they are Arsenal and Everton and Everton have been in the top tier longer than any other club. We came pretty close under Mike Walker when we came from 0-2 down to beat Wimbledon 3-2 and under Howard Kendall in his 3rd time in charge when we drew 1-1 with Coventry and had to rely on other results. Those were dark days. I was never confident about Roberto Martinez even though we had one good season under him. I did think however, that we had the right man in Ronald Koeman, his first season was adequate and I thought the team would improve more under him this season. Unfortunately, I was wrong and the rest is history. I do think we will get it right eventually though but it may take some time.

They all ran around like pensionairs!

To be honest based on the performances I think koeman would have put us round about where we are now season wise. Because he did have an attacking plan, it was crap but he did have one. Not sure you can look at the fixtures and honestly say allardyce has been an improvement over him.

Still not good enough but how were we to know what would follow after sacking him

Koeman was the same in every season he spent in english football, start off terrible and pick up after christmas. We would have got a striker in january and been sound i think.

However what i would say is that cycle couldnt continue really, whats the point in qualifying for europe, bombing out of it the next season and then hammering mid table teams at home the second half of the season and finishing 7th again.

i know it seems a long way off but i was 8 when we last won a trophy and im desperate to see us win one as an adult and we never would have under koeman

That is a good point. Koeman bombed out of Europe with Southampton prior yo coming here so there was just a good chance it was a cycle of rather have not been stuck in.
