On top of our lack of wins over the RS (it's 7 years fhs) - how many minutes in those 14 games (one FA Cup semi) have we been ahead?

7 draws 7 losses

And the answer is:
Home 6 games
Lead by 1 7 mins
Even 432 mins
-1 90 mins
-2 11 mins

Away - look away now

Lead by 1 54 mins
Even 357 mins
-1 128 mins
-2 86 mins
-3 31 mins
-4 54 mins

In other words over 19.5 hours of league football we have had a lead for 23 massive minutes (barely 2% of the playing time) - and 38 at Wembley in case you can remember that "glorious" brief moment. A whole hour out of 21!

Show that to the players.

Just really gets me mate,I watch other teams, and they "break the game up"make it scrappy to prevent the opposition getting a head of steam whenever they get a lead, they know how to see a game out, we haven't a scooby!!

Couldn't agree more....I've watched Everton for years & I know you have.....but in all those games, we have a unique ability to look uncomfortable in possession when we are on top and fail to see it out. Too many to mention....recent ones could be West Ham at home 2 up & lose, the milkman's backpass in the semi at Wembley, last year at Old Trafford, playing until Sunday at Stamford Bridge for the Terry equaliser. I could add loads more.

I hate knee jerking now though because we've been poor ..., forget that, the last performances have been horrible, but as you say it ain't new. We struggle to make even the easier games difficult when we lead and when we go two down, let's be honest, the bookies have long odds on us changing it. It's Everton....I can't change now. They do my head in so much, but when it clicks and you get a result & performance that reminds you, I understand why I care like I do.

I felt bad enough as it was, I'm off to bed.

One thing (amongst many other things re:EFClol)that really gets the Terracottas goat, during Koemans tenure and previously with Bobby Brown Shoes is the number of occasions we are "out" of a game getting hit by goals at crucial times,Saturday v Spurs we concede around the half hour, ok we're not playing well but see it through to half time and "stay in the game",no we concede just before the break, then are all over the place a minute into the second half after Koemans team talk, game over, same again last night, playing poorly again admittedly,go one down, but just keep yourself in it,we can't, we also never appear capable when in a winning position particularly against top four sides of closing a game down,City this year,Utd away last year, the kopites last season we were drawing at Goodison and were hit in injury time, these examples we conceded as we sat back and you could say we "got what we deserved"but the mentality of the players makes me as a supporter always fearful almost knowing what will happen.I can only describe it as unprofessional,I've highlighted a few games of the top of my head but there are many others were we have totally shot ourselves in the foot, apologies for the rant, but the last couple of games have sent me over the edge!!

The players are weak mentally. We go behind to a big side and their heads go down.

The club itself needs to develop a winning mentality. Something I begrudgingly admire about the RS is that they don't know when they're beat.

I remember a Martinez game. Think it was West Ham at home. Yeah it was. We were down to 10 I think. Winning. Lukaku missed a pen.

And you just knew what would happen. Switched off.

Saw the score later on. West Ham win thanks to Payet.

EV-ER-TON
I remember that game, and had the exact same thought.

All those addages, "a team is weakest when it's scored a goal", "miss a pen, the opposition will come back" etc always apply to Everton. Never our opposition.

And I hate it when the opposition have a player sent off. You KNOW that'll work against us, as much as us winning a corner under the martinez era was as good as a goal kick to the opposition.

100% agree that it sucks but think it's just football tbh and every other team will tell you the same. Ever spoken to a Spurs supporter? They're a really strong side and their entire fanbase spends 90 mins gnawing at their nails, fretting over past failures.

Think back to the mid-80s side and the difference in mentality was just palpable - I was young at the time but it was like you could feel the mental strength enamating off the pitch at Goodison. Even then that team of titans let the 86 title slip through their fingers when they were the strongest they had ever been. So no one is immune from making a right bollox of things.

I think for me what's hurting at the moment is in the past when we had windows with zero spend, no new players and the squad was full of Scott Gemmils we kind of expect it.
But after last season's turn around and buying a load of new players, to be this poor is a bit of a blow

Too true mate. Back in the day I had a coach who when asked 'how long left' ALWAYS looked at his watch and said 'just over a quarter of an hour' even if it was 2 mins. I pulled him on it after the game and he said if I told you 2 mins you'd all relax, 15 mins or so makes you put your head down and work...I used it myself in later years.

No they're not.
But we've got Koeman to help us now though
