in memoriam - 1965-2024
Just had a power cut. First time ever, I have re set the oven timer, first time.

12 years we have had it.

Pleased me. But pretty unimpressive.

Fairly impressive - those ovens can be a bit 'winkly'.

I remember the day I managed to lick every step on the way up to the sanitorium in Wakefield, without swallowing once.

I was proud and I savoured that tingly, chlorine flavour for months afterwards.

First ever? FFS, we have this nigh monthly. Usually if we lose power, we lose it 1-2 times more before it's up again. If it's not high winds knocking over trees, then it's the annual winter ice taking down limbs. Fortunately we were only offline 15-20 minutes in recent weather.

For us a power loss is like a Moyes defensive sub. You know it's coming, and when it's coming, and when it gets close you can almost smell it.

Nice job on the oven clock, still

Haha! No, not first power cut, get them a lot in our little village. First time I have re set the timer on the oven after, which means the oven can be turned on. And I can cook Mrs R her tea.

Oh, sorry. And here I was waxing poetic in my mind about the how you Brits often get the little things right.

Are your oven clocks different than our US models? I've seen a short documentary on how to buy a cooker on your island, and to be honest that's not how things here work at all.

Dunno mate. We have a range cooker, electric ovens, gas rings. Sounds posh but isnt really. But it wont work unless you press the right buttons on the front after a power cut. I just randomly push them cos I know Mrs R will take the mickey if I ask her, but did it first time just now. Then written the sequence down!

Little things.
