Unesco World Heritage status - Blame Everton

The people who run the UNESCO World Heritage are about as ancient and out of touch as the areas they give their status to and are completely irrelevant in 2021. They have been trying to remove the status for at least a decade now and it really has nothing to do with a stadium that isn't even built yet, well apart from a bit of childish oneupmanship after they didn't get their own way during planning stage.

The City and its developed dock areas will be miles more affluent without the status.

Red Echo journalists already getting their "it's a huge blow to the city" opinion pieces out there. Hilarious.

None of the people lamenting this have ever been down to the dock clearly, it's an absolute dump.

Of course they are.

They need something to fume about. It's a shame because once upon a time, they were a great paper. Nowadays, they just need to do anything to drum up clickbait.

Anyone who knows anything, will know that UNESCO doesn't help Liverpool. Anyone outraged, I'd challenge you to ask them what UNESCO heritage status, actually brings to Liverpool?

Guarantee they won't be able to tell you.

It's a shame but it seems organisations like this are against any sort of future development for the sake of preserving the past.

I'm all for preserving the past, but delapidated and empty docks do not attract people to places.
Cycled down the Dock Road not that long ago and it's pretty grim.

I would be devastated if we started demolishing the big wall etc. but that's not happening.

Neglecting the area to maintain some type of heritage status does not make sense.

Oh dear!

Nothing to do with the whole thing just sitting there rusting and rotting
Nothing to do with them not putting 1 penny into its upkeep.

The Albert Dock can tell you and future visitors all you need to know about the history of the other 6 and a half miles of dock frontage.
One metaphorical 'Blue Plaque' is removed from a wall it never, in reality, ever adorned.
The net loss to the City in real terms is the amount of cash world heritage put into the City

Everton are like me .. get the blame for everything!

On a serious note hope it doesn't have too much of a bad impact on the city as a whole
It's more of a straw that broke the camel's back situation - waterfront development has been a bone of contention for years with Unesco.

How many tourists have walked around the north end docks since World heritage status was awarded in 2004 (actually can't be done AFAIK because there's a huge wall in the way)? A man walks around that area he ain't there for the maritime history.
