Unai Emery

He wanted the chance to test himself against the best in Europe and thanks to the mutants behaviour at Heysel, he and Everton were denied that chance. So he chose, rightly or wrongly to leave.
He had ambition and had done a brilliant job with the Blues and earned the right to choose his own destiny imo.

The mighty Athletic Bilbao though, Pfft, was prob the most gut wrenching feeling I've ever had to do with togger... anyway Emery.

Theres not a great deal of quality of the left wing around and available, I did ponder our old friend Perisic from Inter, but hey, we are rich here, why not just go for the best?

Rico would cost around 20m, Milik around 20m also and J Rod somewhere in the region of 80-85m, which based on our transfer kitty of 50m-100m and added to the sale of Stones and Lukaku leaves us with around 80m to spend on a back up CB, back up CM and a back up ST.

We could try one of those German GKs. Isn't Horn available for around 10m? Whatever's good, cheap and speaks English I guess.

Pulisic is pretty good for a 17 yo. Even breaking into BVB first team. I would say get him, even if it is just for marketing in USA, unless BVB is trying to get a lot of money for him. A lot of these German Americans are pretty good and looking forward to the up and comers.

Assuming we buy Milik, call back Tarashaj, we should be good with a youth product as a 3rd striker. Gives us more leeway in negotiating too.

That RB backup worries me though. We really don't have anyone there and should get someone good but at the backup level for now.

Unai Emery, age 44.

Emery prefers a 4-2-3-1 formation and sometimes a 4-3-3, he plays a pressing game based on controlling the midfield and getting the ball to the wing backs whenever possible. The main thrust of his attacking play is the wing backs are encouraged to bomb on whenever possible and get into the box to shoot rather than hit the white line and cross.

As a defensive unit he expects every single player to retain its position on the field and press high up the pitch to get the ball back, his players are finely drilled and he wont accept lazy arse bishes jogging around dreaming of PSG, im looking at you Lukaku you utter trampoline shinned trumpet.

As for signings, Benega is without doubt his "favourite" player who followed him from Valencia, but is supposed to have already sealed a move to Inter, which seems pretty flawed with Inter insisting hes out of contract and Sevilla maintaining that he "did a Kone" and played in enough games to qualify for a 12month extension.

Other players we could maybe look at would be the young keeper Sergio Rico, who ive heard good things about, but certainly wouldnt be cheap, as long as he doesnt bring that lanky streak of utter tosh Llorente with him or that Stoke reject N'Zonzi everything will be ok.

From what I can see his midfield for the last few games has been quite strange in my eyes.

He played 2 DMs with Coke, who is a RB playing as a right sided CM and Vitolo, who is a Right Winger playing Left wing, which suggest he is a tactical genius who should be admired. He normally favours 2 DMs with the wingbacks supplying the width, assisted by 2 wingers with the playmaking duties handled by the number 10 who sits in the hole and pulls the strings, the main difference between him and El Fraudo is the pressing all over the pitch and the attacking at pace. He also doesnt give a crap about winning the passing and encourages his players to have a pop whenever they want.

Based on his preferred formation we would set up something like this :

Rico
Coleman - Jags - Mori - Baines
Besic - McCarthy
Mirallas -- Barkley -- James Rodriguez
Milik

The boy Kenny could step in and play a part.

Not sure if posted, but I read something yesterday regarding the new rules, players can only sign on loan in transfer windows now and theres no recalling anymore, think that means the club is going to have to be really careful about who we loan out and making sure the players we retain get some game time.

I would hope that by now, Deulofeu would have matured enough to realise that Emery had a point (and that he will be mature enough to work with him to improve as a player). If not, then he's just one player - and in this case, probably not the type of player we need.

from what ive seen of deulofeu, emery is talking sense. martinez was blinded by his skills, not his team ethic.

I really dont understand this.

FDB brought back the title to Ajax after 7 years and was competing with clubs with higher wage budgets + spent £4.5mil on his major transfer bringing in £60mil+ as a net spend whilst losing Ericsson and Vertonghen amongst others.

Whilst Emery has done similar at Sevilla he hasnt brought through the amount of young players which FDB has and has limited english.

I dont see how appointing one over the other shows no ambition? FDB is also more of a believer in exciting players rather than workhorses and ultra defensive players in the team.
Might be helpful to have some defensive players!

Yes I read that too. Good for blooding youth I hope.
I'm a firm believer of rotation, so hopefully whoever we got, youth or buy, the players meant for backup also get games under their belt.

Will post the new rules article I saw when I see it again.

I've reached the point of not caring who it is as long as it is someone. We have so many players no longer needed through one reason or another, others wanting away and I don't want to see us panic buying. Whoever they appoint it needs to be this week, it needs to be someone who will be firm with the so call stars and someone who knows how to defend...............from what I've heard of this guy he ticks all the boxes so let it be and lets get ready for next season.

Other than Lukaku, who else wants away? I've not heard any whispers of others.

R-E-L-A-X

Transfer window doesn't start till July so we have a whole month to prepare his replacement if we do sell.

Also, those kids coming through are exciting!

the only thing that would genuinely concern me is the lack of away form in la liga ??? whats actually gone wrong there for him???

Focused on Europa mate.

To be fair would you want us to try and possibly fail at finish in top 4 or would you prefer comfortable league and a cup/top 4 rewards instead?

When Howard kendall won the League with us and left us for Athletic Bilbao I never understood it and I still half hate him for it now.

He wanted the chance to test himself against the best in Europe and thanks to the mutants behaviour at Heysel, he and Everton were denied that chance. So he chose, rightly or wrongly to leave.

Without looking up the circumstances,I seem to remember that Howard was very heavily linked to the Barcelona job(Lineker and Hughes were already there).

For some reason it fell through but he had already had his head turned at the thought of going to Spain, and took the Bilbao job on the bounce.

Thats how I remember it anyway.

Back on topic, Im sure the financial package offered will more than be sufficient incentive to join a midtable premiership team

I know next to nothing about Seville or their tactics. I know less about how he likes to deploy his strikers and what style of striker he likes to play. same goes for his defenders.

So with this in mind, can you answer me this...... With the players he has historically focused on in terms of purchases or development, would you consider either Stones and/or Lukaku to be holders of the particular traits he admires?
