Have lost their licence in London. Huge news really as it was starting to really take over in London.

They were a breath of fresh air here in Brisbane - for a while. Then they introduced the 'demand tariff'. I used them at 0045am on a Sat night got a 'quote' for $110 + 25 mins wait. Grabbed the first cab outside the pub $95.

However at 1245pm they are still a bit of a bargain, but not as much as they were.

Here they have forced the duopoly to up their game, in 2 yrs I can see them all being same same.

The lobby not to pay taxes and to be exempt from any and all restrictions on ability to make profits would appear to be pretty strong as well (see Airbnb, Google, Facebook, Uber, Walmart, Sports Direct, etc. etc.).

What have Google and Facebook to do with who you choose to drive you about? I'm not sure cartels are good, whoever happens to run them.

Uber drivers earn more than cabbies though? It is outrageous how these company's force so many people to both sign up to be drivers whilst also forcing customers to use them. Quite the trick.
Not a chance mate. Uber take 25% gross and then there's car costs, insurance and fuel costs to come off the total fares taken. It's in no way lucrative.

Some serious reasons given.....

In cities where Uber was introduced, there was a 50% increase in the number of employed drivers in those cities.

The study found that:

• After the introduction of Uber, self-employment in taxi services rose by 50%

• The number of hours worked increased among both salaried and self-employed taxi drivers

• Even traditional taxi services experienced growing employment after the introduction of Uber

• Salaried drivers saw their incomes decline by 10% following the introduction of Uber

Uber drivers typically earn more per hour than their counterparts

• In wider economic terms, part of the decline in incomes among drivers in traditional taxi services was offset by an expansion of business income among self-employed drivers

Business over people. Quelle surprise Monsiuer Wayne.

It’s quite possible for both business and worker to profit handsomely.

It's a rip off. Completely anti-consumer.

If it didn't have "high demand" prices, then fine, but it does, so you can't book them with any semblance of reliability on pricing. They are also monopolistic in their approach, again meaning a bad deal for the consumer.

That, and the reasons given by TfL there are spot on. Very little accountability due to an 'expand at all costs' attitude.

Would happily see Uber eradicated from Britain.
