We absolutely should stick to our guns on the valuation here.

All the talk of the of United no longer accepting the ‘United Tax’ and then went and massively overpaid for Cunha and Mbeumo who nobody else was seriously interested in.

The only way to get rid of the desperate tag is to stick by new principles. And it’s it won’t happen in the short term, so there’s no point in making the same mistakes as the old regime so early.

If we overpay here, all we do is show to everyone else that we’ll do the same again. Would have swiftly moved on without hesitation after the second rejected bid.

Don't know how to read that.

The fact they're providing a counter offer rather than just telling us to go away is encouraging.

But they surely realise nobody is agreeing to that sell on clause.

The player's value will peak summer and he probably won't sign a new contract.

Equally, not sure the player would love the idea of a 25% sell on clause because that means we'll be equally as tough as Southampton are being should a bigger club come in two years down the line. He has to hit insane heights for a club to pay 100m or he has to see out 5 years at Everton (probably not in the plan).

So, that Southampton proposal is only in Southampton's interests, which is not how deals are concluded - and I'm assuming they're willing to sell because they've said he's not for sale.

I still think something gives and an agreement is found, but fair enough if we walk away at this stage.

Interestingly there is a private jet due to land at John Lennon Airport at 17:26 tomorrow evening from Southampton. This could well be irrelevant, or it could be an indicator that a deal is close and the player may be travelling on that plane to complete the transfer.
Do you know if this has been cancelled mate ?

Soton taking the mick at this point. It's not like any other club is in for him, nor is he saying he "wants European football". This guy is potential and nothing more than that. He's had half a good season, then faded, and his stats are worse than the players we've already got, or have let go.

I thought the days of us getting our pants pulled down had gone with Moshiri. This is classic "old" Everton. Walk away!

Personally glad Moyes called out these clueless bluffers for what they are and backed them into a corner. For far too long at this club absolute chancers have been able to get away with complete incompetence with no accountability. I support and back Moyes in holding these people accountable for their performance. I trust him and his track record far more than I trust a couple of cowboys who relegated Leeds.

As I've said a few times now, I think they know others are interested.

They've publicly named their price - which is pretty rare - with that in mind.
Other may be interested, but they didn't pop their head up when 27, 35 or 40 million pound bids went in. The chances of them appearing when it's now at 50 have got to be small.

The amount of prem clubs that can offer Dibling playing time and cough up 40 million have got to be just us and maybe Villa and Spurs.

If the counteroffer is true then it would seem that Southampton are not serious about selling him as the 25% sell on fee is ridiculous. I think he's a very promising player but it's time to walk away and focus on other targets with teams who will negotiate in a realistic fashion. Around £40 million plus £5 million add ons and say a 10% sell on fee is the absolute maximum that he's worth at this point in time.

It seems odd given he will be in the last year of his contract next year and his value will surely not be increasing after a season in the Championship. Teams will be happy to sit and wait pick him up on a free in 2026.

The Nick Hammond appointment was especially baffling for me, given that he had a poor track record at Leeds and West Brom. There was nothing to suggest that he would be a worthwhile addition to our management set-up.
