Did you find white chicks deeply offensive? Would you ever? Would you if you were a white minority in another country where you knew you faced vicious racism? How much systemic racism do you think black people in the Caribbean and Nigeria face? Context matters.

No and No. Would I be offended by White Chicks? Are you saying that the white people in this story are the smarter ones, and are highlighting the black main characters bigotry by making him look a fool? Absolutely no. Im actually glad someone is highlighting it and making my race look like equals for once.

I haven’t seen White Chicks. Eddie Murphy though has played all manner of white characters and I personally couldn’t care less. Black people have a free comedic pass at Honkies in my book.

Fawlty towers now :(, lucky I have these things on hard media.

Am i not able to watch blazing saddles any more? I hope so, another film i love. If we cant laugh at ourselves then its a sad sad day.

And it's now that one episode of Fawlty Towers that was pulled for a couple of days is back up, after a quick review, with a warning about some of the language used. Not quite as big a story as some of the more sensitive have made it out to be over the last 24 hours or so. And even if someone doesn't currently own it there was never a ban. It was never under threat.

I think one of the main sources of the "ban" on Blazing Saddles comes from Joe Biden rambling on like the increasingly feeble minded bigot that he is. It was picked up from a speech he made and from there it snowballed among those who jump on this kind of alarmist nonsense and feel under attack everytime someone points out that racial slurs might upset some people.

A quick google of "Blazing Saddles Racist" shows a front page of results full of praise of it's satirising of racism. The only negative looking results are interviews with some wealthy, old and possibly out of touch white guy called Mel Brooks who is bemoaning how it's under threat and couldn't be made today.

Because you've not faced systemic, and endemic racism, nor does white face have any sinister roots.

I haven’t. Seeing the shoe squarely on the other foot especially in the mainstream media of the time though, especially when you would have had to use the same language to get respect, would have been seen as a milestone surely.

60s? - I can remember it and I was born in 1973 - just googled and the last show was aired in 1978.

I was born in 78 and I remember watching them, that means that my family were massive racists and video recorded the show to spoon feed me their bigotry...which is unlikely as video recorders were not readily widespread until the 80s. Indeed I think I remember getting our first one around 82. Or they were still on TV, be it repeats of their show or as guests on others/royal variety shows etc.

Hardly the biggest deal back then as you had shows on such as Rising Damp, Aint half hot mum, Till death do us part and so on still on or being repeated.
