True Value and Tunnel Vision

Player Valuation: £70m
This is something I have been thinking about for a while.

David Moyes knows who he wants to sign, and has a target list in mind, well before he needs to sign them.

Would we have got £22m+ for Lescott at any other club other than City?

I would say probably not. He's simply not worth that amount of money and we have taken advantage of the situation and have been quite sneaky about it. Driving up the price etc....

Now the players we have signed since have cost us £9m, £5.5m and £6m. So that's what £20.5m for 3 players, and we sold a player for £22m less whatever Wolves get, so we have basically broken even on 3 players over 1.

That in itself is very good business. Now I understand people are pissed that we didn't spend more, well maybe Moyes tried to, maybe he looked at other options in midfield but for some reason it never happened - as is often the case on deadline day for all teams involved in deals.

Banega was blocked maybe because Valencia decided that now Everton had money they wanted to sell rather than loan, and I have no doubt they pushed the price up to a level that far exceeded the value of that player.

Moyes knows that Arteta is due back and probably doesn't see the point in spending the rest of his warchest on a player he only wanted on loan while Arteta recovered from his injury.

VDV is a player who would cost us a lot of money, regardless of whether or not he was available, or wanted to sign for us. He would cost us money.

So else could have been drafted in? Ledley? Barton? Bentely?

I doubt any of them would appeal to Moyes, not enough to splash out money, which he may need to utilise in the Jan window if he suffers an injury.

So basically the board have been unable to back Moyes, that is clear, and has been clear for a long time, nothing much can be done until Kirkby has been sorted.

The £13m loan was secured for transfers for Moyes, but that was until he sold Lescott, so perhaps using tunnel vision and the possibility of injuries occurring in unknown positions, Moyes has decided to hold back that money until Jan, and perhaps he tried to get Banega on loan, but Valencia wanted cash.

Just something worth thinking about. It's not all a conspiracy to line the pockets of the velvet wearing brandy drinking thesps.

I guess we find out in January, the fact is we had over 2 months to get targets in, deals take a long time, I realise this, but surely as a Club they would have taken some lessons from last Summer?

If we only had £13 to spend, and with Moyes talking about Bosmans, finding someone who is going to improve the squad is hard for free.

The Lescott situation changed everything and we were able to bring in 3 quality players. Moyes said he wanted 4 at least, and he missed that target by one. That one being Banega who would have been ace. However Valencia shafted us.

Cant see January bearing fruit, tbh. How many times has Moyes used it? Not many. He's of the opinion clubs will drive up prices because they have to secure their own positions.

No, because we surely must?

Record turnover
Record kitdeal

All soundbites trotted out recently. Even Moyes himself touched on this in an interview. If we dont have money, where is it going?

Servicing debts? Dividends to shareholders? New contracts? Maintenance? Our problem it seems is that we are borrowing against future assets all the time.

We have loans all over the show, but unlike the likes of Arsenal, Man U and Liverpool, we can't guarantee the level of income that they can, so we don't have that much money available - unless we have a successful season, by that I mean CL. We sell someone for well over his value, as we have done this summer, or someone like Green secures a loan for the club to allow us to invest in the likes of Yakubu etc...

We also expected to contribute to the new stadium, unlike what Wyness said initially, we need to contribute.

Liege said we bid for Defour and Real said we bid for Gago.

So that means we did? Come on mate, you know how it is with media hype and all kinds of stuff like that.

It's all a game that all clubs play to peddle their talent.

But let's say we did. We apparently secured a £13m loan for players, I reckon our budget was £15m+ because we still had to make payments for Fellaini.

We had enough there to bid for Defour or Gago, and playing along with the pretence that we did bid for these players, more than likely they turned down the offer due to the high value attached to players due to the Real Madrid situation.

Hence why we went for Banega on loan, which all of a sudden turned around, pretty obvious they wanted some of the Lescott cash, and like I already said Moyes probably doesn't want to waste money on a player to replace Artera as he is due back very soon.

Buying quality players is never a waste, there is 1 area in the whole squad that now needs addressing and thats the CM postion.

Anyway, forget it, the window is closed. Lets all move on.

Well we have just signed a wide man to play on the left or right, we have Pienaar who can play left or right. We all agree Osman is a better player in the middle, Fellaini is gathering momentum. Rodwell is passing the ball around like Pele in 1970, and Arteta is due back any day. Oh and we have Cahill also.

So with only 2 spots available for the middle, who do we need to replace?

Were not Spurs, we don't buy 10m player to leave on the bench.
