Let's face it....A midfield 3 of McCarthy, Cleverley and Barkley is pretty god damm decent.

Back up options of Barry, Besic, Osman and (when fit) Gibson is also not to be sniffed at.

Any Manager who couldn't get something effective out of those options needs to be questioned.

Lot of nice passing in that midfield 3.

I like the fact that he 90% of the time he takes 2 touches to do anything (one touch to control, one to distribute).

It means we are doing things far quicker and should hopefully open teams up.

Freebie too.

This is exactly right. Osman and Pienaar could pick a pass but weren't the quickest to get the ball moving again and aside from them we have no one that really creates except Baines, the permanently injured Gibson or pace players.

I'm actually a huge fan of Martinez and will back him if he thinks Cleverley can play the number 10 role. The problem he has is that there are plenty who want him gone now, and if playing Cleverley in that role doesn't work out, then it will just be another stick for lads to beat him with.

I'll criticise him in that situation as he himself has acknowledged we need a foreign playmaker as English players don't yet have that ability to excel in that position. Would be the equivalent of Mourinho saying he needs top strikers last season and instead of signing Costa and remy he went and signed long and carlton Cole, he and we all know cleverly isn't good enough for that position.

I agree, I don't think Cleverley will be good enough to play that position, but maybe Martinez has seen something in training that makes him think he could, saying that though, if Martinez did think that, you would have expected to have seen Cleverley playing that role in our pre season games.
