Player Valuation: £6m
Dont suppose any of us were overjoyed with yesterday's actvitities but they're done now, 3 players out and 2 in, so how does that leave us? Without stating the bleedin' obvious I suppose it all comes down to how the 2 new lads get on, if they do well then we could end up in a stronger position personnel wise, lets be honest it cant take much to improve on beckford and in drenthe we've got some much needed width and cover for baines at LB, the yak I'm not counting as he wasn't going to feature for whatever reason regardless - so as I am obviously disappointed that we didn't add to our strike force and have lost arteta, but it's pretty much as you were squad wise - lets hope the emergence of barkley can go some way towards filling the hole left by Arteta,

Finally 31 august again to do all our 'pre' season deals, have we not learned from this by now??? sorry DM but that one is down to you, cant use Bill or the clubs financial crisis excuse for this one as this is how you've operated pretty much since you joined the club!!!

Agreed, we have to move on, and Everton and Moyes always seem to prefer the underdog tag and seem to perform. Also financial pressure is eased so people can stop banging on about that.

Lets hope the team give us something positive and the new blend performs above our expectations

We have lost an excellent player in Arteta, and two handy players in Beckford and Yakubu, but I think the deals we made were the right ones to make.

Arteta has been treading water for some time, moving him on not only frees up 4 mill in wages, puts money in the bank and eases financial burden whilst it unlocks space for barkley and rodwell to settle in as our key midfield. This is something we have needed, a resolution to who gets the CM spot and we have got it.

We are clearly gearing at putting together a good young team and aiming for a serious shot at some silverware within a couple of years. Compare this to the other obvious strategy of throwing money at established players and hoping we get lucky. We cannot sustain a competitive edge if we did that, we would be under in no time.

Massively sad we lost Arteta, but the combination of easing of the financial pressure, potential great new players (hope these loans are with a first buy clause or set price at end) fresh new faces, finally getting some pace. It's not all doom and gloom, I for one and excited to see how this changes our game.

i think we will be grand let all the hype die down and lets get the team to stick together and perform( like they repeatedly say on OS )
THE coming months are huge for our club its time for DM and his players to COLLECTIVELY stand up and be counted

Surprised at the Beckford move tbh, looked like a good prospect that needed time (something we prob don't have), I would've given him time before Victor.

Suppose it got to the point where it was whoever we could offload.

Glads it was Mikel rather than others though.

if it works excellant but just bear in mind DM aint gonna change his way of thinkin on how we play or set up

just coz ' arteta is gone doesnt mean hes gonna be going gung ho to please the fans

This is an excellent and Gob forbid sensible, non hysterical post.

The Arteta deal was an excellent piece of business for a 29 year old who's been either injured or crap for 12 months. I think what is wrong though is the way it was done 'supposedly' right on the deadline so BK/DM didn't have to answer any awkward questions about re-investment.

A mate said to me it must be like being in administration, but without administrators.
In respect of being a business, these were the possibly right things to do. I'm looking forward to the next game :)

Is Yobo still with us afterall?

Face it, we are not in a position to let the value of this squad deteriorate to fuk all.

On a positive note, Moyes has a good record with loans overall. Don't forget Tim Howard, Arteta, Pienaar, Yobo all came in on loan to begin with and look at how they got on for us! Even the likes of Donovan and Fernandes (the first time) have made an impact during relatively short spells with us. Even Jo scored a few importnant goals for us!

A bit of rep love wouldn't hurt! At the end of the day I'd love for us to go buy 50 mill pounds worth of players every window but we can't, we need to solidify how we look as a business and not just a football team, because whichever way we look at it, the game has changed and we need to change to ensure survival.

That said, who would of thought we'd pick up a pacey left sided midfielder from Real Madrid. Lets just hope he doesn't like pineapple on pizzza.

I honestly wish Arteta the best. Think he will be a great signing at a 'bargain' price for them, and I'm glad he gets a go at the CL.

We now need every player in that squad to stand up and be counted. Las time we lost one of our best players on deadline day (we all know who) we finished 4th, and the team stuck together, and did brilliant. Let's hope Fellaini and Baines do the jobs we need em to, and get them to sign new contracts with the saved Arteta wages, and hopefully help Rodwell and Barkley develop.

If we can secure a top ten position by Jan, keep the squad fit, and maybe try and sign Sturridge (loan or down payment) and a creative midfielder (Stuart Holden or Matt Jarvis), we could have a good chance.

It's gonna be a long season though, and I'm still fuming. If we don't get investment (which we won't) we really are gonna need to play well.

I think that we made some good deals yesterday. Moyes was never gonna play Yakubu (he will keep Blackburn up), so for me it's two for two. The fees wwe received were very good. I have stated previously that I would sell Arteta if an offer of £10 m. came in. He has not been good since his new contract last season and the midfield he created with Fellaini just did not work. To me he frees up a place in midfield that Barkley and Rodwell will need. Moyes was never gonna drop him, so this is good news for our younger midfielders.

I remember when Drenthe was the standout player at the youth world cup, which prompted Real Madrid to sign him - he is a very good player and I agree with those who have stated that he is a typical Moyes signing. I have no idea about Denis but he can be no worse than Anichebe and has scored as many goals in one season as Anichebe has in his entire professional career.

Hopefully the bank will let us keep some of the money that has come in and let Moyes move for another striker in January.
