Saints fan in peace. Yes, he did integrate players quickly and there were a lot of them in his first season and he had also had to reassure the players that stayed - so a fantastic job! He had the final say in recruiting new players but did not identify them - that came via our 'black box'. The exceptions were possible Pelle and Cuco Martina. The impression is that he is a very good man manager and very calm. In both his seasons there was a big form drop after the autum internationals, and last season there were strong rumours that he was close to the sack in January. But he did turn it round in both cases - so keep the faith on that score.

Where he did upset the Board, was his treatment of the young players - so much so that parents that threatened to remove their kids from our Academy because they saw a lack of progression to the first team. The other issue were his 'holidays' and both of these contributed to him being near the sack. The impression is that the Board offered him a contract extension because they were happy with what he was doing with the first team (and the good form at the end of the season) but not too disappointed when he chose to go to you because it meant we could return to the Southampton Way i.e. bringing players through from the Academy. Claude Puel has the youngsters training with the first team (as Poch did) and Claude joins in the training too - instead of standing on the sidelines aka Ron.
