Player Valuation: £5m
Ok, we're skint. We know it. No new players but loans. Seems to me like this is the perfect time to start blooding some of our own young'uns then. Make the most with what we've got... If we don't sign any loan players, then let's start seeing how some of our brighter reserve players are looking.

Vic, Rodwell, and Coleman are virtual locks nowadays, so while this applies to them, they aren't really what I'm talking about.

Let's see more of Gueye, Baxter, Duffy, Mustafi, Barkley, Agard, Garbutt, Silva, etc. Maybe even a Mucha sighting? We may drop some points on mistakes, but we may bank a few that we weren't expecting due to the wildcard/energy the team could show. I'd love to see at least 4 of our normal reserves find the pitch this year.

Fans may not be quite as excited about this as a big signing, but hey, these guys are OURS already, let's get a few sneak peeks and start getting excited about this next generation Everton. Could also help us in recruiting other young stars if they see that Everton is a place to learn AND get first team football earlier than other places.

So fans, IF we end up doing this, please be kind and supportive to the lads. We can't afford them having confidence issues like Bily much of this season.

Anyone else in favor?

id love to see some of the young ones blooded. maybe thats what the squad needs is something new to mix it up. weve seen the same 13-15 players used all season. yes we have a small squad, but on any given match day any of us could probably name what we think would be the starting 11 and have it completely right give or take billy for osman on the left every once in a while (if were lucky enough to see billy given a start). giving these young kids a go could add some unpredictability to our game.

For me, Gueye is an obvious choice. Baxter if possible.

I dont think anyone is ready yet but maybe barkley who is injured and i dont think moyes believes in gueye cos he cant even get off the bench. The last few times i have seen baxter he has looked out of his depth but it would be nice to see some young pace and urgency.

would like to see a few given the chance myself , but were to near the bottom to gamble right now, and will be for a while before they get a chance, if were safe near the end when theres nothing to play for only cup final places we might get to see one or two

I should have mentioned that I'm over here in the USA and obviosly have never een a reserves match. I have no idea about the quality of the players, but I also know sometimes it takes seeing how someone works in a real game sitatino before you get a read on them.

There's no better feeling (for me anyway) than seeing a youth product break through into the first team. However I do feel that the current bunch are not quite ready. Baxter hasn't progressed as quickly as we'd have liked and I think a loan would suit him. Gueye isn't quite ready either. He's not impressed a huge amount for the ressies but has done oke in some of our league games. His game is still very raw but I wouldnt be surprised to start seeing him make a few cameo appearances now.

The main thing is that I think as a set of fans we're now used to seeing players break through at a very young age and perhaps take that for granted a little bit forgetting that more often than not it takes awhile for a player to be ready for the first team. We've had Rooney, Rodwell, Vaughn and Vic all to break through at a very young age in recent years, but these are the exceptions. Not the rule.

How can we say if the youth players are ready?

We're just fans, not internal coaches.

If they are ready, or thereabouts, then I would like to see them get a chance. I'm not entirely sure Moyes gives young players a fair chance (when injuries don't force him to), but that's another rant for another day.

Another thing that lead me toward this feeling is that it seem that a lot of our transfer movement over the last few years has been bringing in some youngster with great potential. And we've seen Coleman and Rodwell already be breakout stars from this policy. I know we've purchased Garbutt, and now loaning Dier, etc. I like this route personally, so we'll see if we pursue it.

Honestly, it is our only route to be competitive since we can't buy proven big name players...

CHANCE.

Thats the important word here.

Of course if they are utter dog**** and can't even control the ball without falling over in training fine, keep them off the pitch.

But presumably they are doing ok in the rerserves/training so the whole point of giving them some first team experience is this :

Not because they ARE good enough right now and we know that from watching them in training, but to give them a chance to see if they can do well in the envoiroment where it matters. On the pitch.

They will never do well if they don't get given a chance. And if they don't get given that chance we will never know.

GIVE THEM A CHANCE. If we had the next Lionel Messi on our books at 17 we wouldn't really need to give him a chance because we'd know how good he is.

I din't think anyone of those are ready yet. From the pre-season games brief rezzie clips etc, what I can say of Baxter is he has a really keen footballing brain. He seems to enjoy a bit of one touch football around the box and has the ability to lay of the ball without taking a touch to get it under control. That's an ability that's hard to coach into players, and why I think he's still high in Moyes thoughts. However he doesn't have a lot of pace and is lacking in the physical department (though from remembering the game against Bate Borisov, he's bulkier than Ozzie!).

He needs first team games, even if it's only in say league 1 ...

I've been harping on about Gueye for ages, mate. I know where you're coming from.

I'm just trying to be objective.

Couldn't have said it better myself.
