According to Wiki, he's been a free agent for over a year after failing at DC United.

Which goes to show how far US football has to go before even a prospect who looks like the next Maradona can be thought of as someone who can play for Bolton.

I'd personally want no American at all in our team at the moment other than Landon Donovan. Too risky.

I think it goes to show that young players fail all the time.

Holden would start for us.

Probably. We're not exactly strong out wide.

Agudelo's completely untested, though. Dempsey is basically another Cahill and we're massively overstocked with players who play in that position and though they can also play on the wings they aren't at their best there. Cherundolo's too old when we've already got Hibbert, Coleman and Neville. Bradley has been struggling to get in ahead of Petrov and Reo-Coker at Villa let alone Arteta and Fellaini. And Chandler is up against Baines.

Chandler plays on the right side. Holden plays in the middle for Bolton soo. Dempsey can play RM or LM positions we need to get some spark from. Bradley would be a cheap option.

The question is also would you replace anybody that we currently have or use the limited funds on an American? Maybe Holden (but he's not available)? Maybe Donovan (not questioning the skill or the need, but the long-term value at 29 and the money he'd cost)? As for the rest, I'd rather stick with what we have.

Yes - apologies to the right side, but I would start a tandem of LD and Chandler on the right in a heartbeat. Coleman is good, I think Chandler is better.

If you buy him cheap, I mean like 8-10K/week cheap it might work down the road. However he's probably at best Championship quality right now.

He dogged it for years and fortunately for us if we ever buy him he doesn't have that many miles on him so I don't think age is a big issue with Landon.

But as far as buying/selling goes, rather than home development, the idea is to either i) buy in at decent value and hope to recoup that money or more at some point in the future (Baines, Jagielka, Fellaini, Heitinga, AJ, for example) or ii) to spend relatively little for older players who have no resale value when the time comes around (Neville, Saha, Howard).

The problem with Donovan is that he would be (relatively) expensive with no resale value at the end of quite a short period.

He plays in Bundesliga 1 so I think he'd do just fine here in watching him play. He is a true winger and can also play RM. Apparently Roma asked after him and were scared off by the price tag. Nurnberg knows they have a treasure.

But being he just joined the first team his wages are indeed probably dirt cheap.

Well if there's a Manager out there who can transform a defender it's Moyes. Just look what he's done for Jags, Baines and Lescott. So I would have faith in any defender that Moyes would want in the club.
