2025/26 Tim Iroegbunam

It’s great to see his stats are up there , they show what we saw with our naked eyes - that he gets about the pitch and made 6 decent tackles. I’m not a huge fan of lots of stats though , doesn’t his tackles won also constitute a “ duel” he’s won on the ground? and one man’s interception is another man’s misplaced pass.
One thing I was looking at was his movement when our backs had the ball , too often he failed to move into a space to provide an outlet, that’s a common thing with young midfielders , something that can be easily worked on on the training ground. Even simple , fast triangle passing requiring a player to move towards the ball carrier can be effectively translated into better play in a match. I think it’s very positive we’ve got a youngster Moyes trusts who can develop further and put some pressure on the older players.

To be fair to him, our midfielders movement is shocking at times, even the experienced players. They are all so static. For example, Newcastle bossed our midfield because their trio constantly moved into space. Ours just stood there and expected the player with the ball to do the work and then find them.

….its a seriously good level of form and totally unexpected (to me) following his Newcastle performance. Amazing, if he can show a level of consistency, Gueye has a challenge on his hands.

A player taking an opportunity is just how it should be.
The ground covered is an interesting one as I think a few (me included) questioned his stamina over 90 minutes. Clearly he’s addressed that. He’s going to be a very good player for us if he keeps improving.

Showed great character after really missing his opportunity against. The lad won't come up against better cms than Declan Rice and he matched him all the way in that battle

I think you’re re-writing history a bit there, Dowell had a very good period of about 3 months at Forest, when the team struggled he faded too , continued to glide around midfield looking classy but not willing to apply himself to the fight going on. Dowell had more natural talent than Gordon , but he wasted it through lack of application unlike Gordon.

Iroegbunam has lots of areas he can improve on but he’s not going to learn it in the Championship at his age. Anyway, the bottom line is he’s the type of player Moyes likes - “ go out and give me 100% , tackle everything that comes your way”, there’s no way he’s going to be loaned out by Moyes.

Wasnt rewriting history on Dowell there. He had a very good loan that opened up options for him but the club decided to loan him again and again rather than either sell or bring him into the first team. That was the main point. Loans can show the flaws or positives in a player.

My point with Tim is he'll get better playing every week rather than just half a season or bit parts.

I think when KDH comes back, he's benched.

If he's on loan who in the world is covering all the minutes he's played this season. He'll learn far more playing 20 mins here and there and the odd start than a full season playing every week in the EPL.

And good cameos against Palace and Utd. Think he's only shown a fraction of what he's capable of on the ball too.
He’s reined it in a bit too much with the ball. He shown ability to carry the ball and beat the press last season but occasionally lost it in bad positions. He has been a bit on the safe side this season. With more game time and maturity hopefully he can strike a balance and be a bit braver.
