Yeah people definitely can manipulate stats however they want to suit their viewpoint, no doubt about it. I think the point doug and momin were making is last season everyone was using stats to prove how crap Howard is l, but now that those same stats cast Howard in a better light all of a sudden they don't matter. It's just the consistency or lack there of

This, really. I called Howard crap last season, and the stats backed me up. Think he's been good this season and the stats back me up here too. Stats MATTER.

Trust Tim are you joking ???
how else do you explain our defensive lapses?

It works both ways. Howard has been slightly less exposed than last season, hence he's got a bit more confidence back and his performances have improved.

Without Dustbin and Alcatraz, we are a lot more solid, but the inexperience and inconsistency at the back still aren't helping.

I have no idea how you can say he's been good this season given some of the goals we've conceded. Shot stopping has always been the best part of his game and on this he's clearly been better than last season, which lets face it was abysmal.

However the areas of concern for me are on crosses, headers and just a lack of communication with his defence. On crosses he's the second worst goalkeeper in the league on coming to claim a cross and failing to do so. On headed goals were the worst in the league, now that's not all down to Howard but given the number we've conceded and the number close in that's a reflection of how poor he is in that area. There are unfortunately no stats on how many times a goalkeeper fails to come out to even try to catch a cross. His distribution is also average at best.

Hence why no one seriously thinks he actually is the third best goalkeeper in the league. He's still nowhere near as bad as a lot of people make him out to be, though. Certainly not bad to the point that we should be thinking about replacing him with mediocrities like Schmeichel or Pantilimon or Ruddy, as people here have seriously suggested, and nowhere close to bad enough to deserve the level of abuse he gets.

According to Squawka, Howard is the 5th best keeper in the Premiership, and the suggestion of some people on here of Kasper Schemical is bottom at 32ND.

Think this proves the point the other week when he said some fans don't know enough about goalkeeping to say he has made mistakes.

Think some of you need to apologise to Tim for your ridiculous comments and stick to playing FIFA.

Then what do the stats say about our defences ability to defend and prevent crosses?
