We supposedly have £15mil+ for Yarmolenko. We also will have a large amount in the summer from the TV deals...

We also have Hibbert/Osman/Pienaar/McGeady/McAleny likely off in the summer...lots of wages saved there.

Naismith and Mirallas are rated at £8-10mil each...and of course some kind of money for Howard himself.

Theres certainly going to be money in the pot. Not solely for a keeper of course but there will 100% be tens of millions.

25m what?? Penny sweets, that's all we can afford. I'd sell Howard to ISIS for Butland..

I actually think after the Euros Butland will dislodge Hart as Englands first choice. I also think if we did go in for him he would favour the move as it could improve his England chances and of course were bigger than Stoke.

What a step up from Howard.

Kolarov just tried to do Butland at his near post the way he done Howard.

Butland being a decent keeper had it well covered and maintained his sides lead. That goes in every players mindset changes. The outcome of the game is most likely very different from that point.

You've got to be a fool not to see what this clown costs us most weeks.

If we actually had £15mil+ for Yarmolenko, wouldn't we have Yarmolenko?

No. The chairman decided not to sell to anyone and made an agreement with Yarmolenko to stay one more year (maybe even till Jan due to champs league) and extended his contract by a single season so Kiev could get some kind of transfer fee when Yarmolenko leaves.

Yarmolenko said this to the media at the time of signing.

Where are you getting that from? First off, the chairman wouldn't have had a choice in the matter if we had actually had £15 million to sign Yarmolenko -- he had a buyout clause in his contract which we failed to meet. Second, Yarmolenko didn't sign a one year extension; he signed a five year extension, over a month after the transfer window ended. That was clearly with an eye on future transfers, yes, but had absolutely nothing to do with us not coming up with the right money a month and a half before.

There's some reliable news stories out there to confirm the Yarmolenko and the chairman turned us down.

Link? I've been looking through old news stories trying to get a clear picture of what actually happened and haven't found anything clear yet. Everything I've seen says that there was a release clause of €20 million, though, which should render any questions about the chairman's interest moot if we actually had the money to meet it.

Were in the Howard thread but...

A-- You're right about the 5 year extension. No idea why i had it in my mind as one season.

B-- When Yarmolenko signed the contract he came out and said that he was only signing so Kiev get some money when he leaves and wouldnt go for free.

C-- To be honest its 330am here but ive done a quick google and cant find the quote or report but it was stated at the time of the contract signing that he'd likely be off in an agreement with the chairman next summer.

D-- Even with the release clause the chairman had stated he wouldnt sell to an inferior club and made all sorts of other comments. It was speculated at the time that even if a release clause was met he wouldnt have been allowed to go without the chairmans approval (could be sub-clauses or simply Yarmolenko didnt want to upset his club).

E-- He's added another agent who it was said i think focuses on European club transfers. This agent is the one i think putting all the everton photos and comments up on social media.

That's the impression i get...that he would be leaving next summer.

Regardless, I don't think there's any real evidence that we ever actually had £15 million in cash available to spend on that transfer, so I don't see how we can assume that money would be available in January to sign a replacement for Howard.

Well, either way im sure Martinez has a shortlist of keepers he wants. I imagine Butland would be on it in a dream scenario or of course maybe he rates someone higher for a much cheaper price.

If it was me, i'd see what cash was there and structure the deal to pay the larger amount in the summer...of course stoke may not accept this but fees are usually paid over the length of contract these days anyway.

If we had to i'd sacrifice one of or both Naismith/Mirallas attacking option for him. I really would like him in our side.
