He's nowhere near good enough if we have aspirations of being top 4. It's so rare you come away from a game thinking Howard got us those 3 points. You need a goalkeeper who does that for you if you want to get to the top.

I couldn't even tell you who Dortmund's keeper was when they were having their run of Bundesliga titles and Champions League runs. Real Madrid hasn't figured out who the hell their keeper is since Casillas fell apart. City gets good performances from Hart, but the days that he actually wins them points are few and far between. PSG has Sirigu, who doesn't even make his national team.

A great goalkeeper will make any team better, obviously, but it's no more important than any other position.

With the top teams I suppose the keeper could have a clanger and they can score 5 down the other end, but for us we need our goalkeeper making vital saves to get us over the line in tight games.

No, we need the majority of our players to outplay the majority of the other team's players. If one of those players is the goalkeeper, that's great, but it's no more important than any other position. It just can sometimes seem more important because it's the last line of defense, but it takes a whole lot of work from the outfield players to get to the point where the keeper even has a chance to influence a match.

I don't think he does, his call to being him back in for Joel last season at first chance for me showed this. Even thou i try and stick up for Howard in the balance of fairness, that decision from Martinez was the worse he made in a season full of terrible decisions.

He does need replacing over the last two seasons his faults in general are obvious!

I always wonder how TV decide who and when to pick on. Guzan is definitely a bit cock up prone (though who wouldnt be with Ciaran Clark playing in front of him?) but why are his mistakes highlighted, while Howard has been making them for a long time now in a very high profile manner, yet seemingly nobody in the media is paying enough attention to even bother picking it up?

Luckily for Howard the majority of his errors aren't hilarious slapstick moments, and so media outlets giving Everton little more than a fleeting glance don't really pick up on them.

The likes of Gomes get crucified because when they do make a mistake it's something Vine-worthy.

I think we would all like to see some pressure for places in the goalkeeping area, Howard should have been dropped last season but the back up is laughable. This year I think he has been better and get's criticism that seems unjust in some instances. To blame him for the 3rd goal yesterday is the biggest crock of all time. (goalkeeper looses out in 1 on 1 with one of the best finishers in world football). To say he went down to early is crazy because great strikers hit the shot early before the keeper is set, go down late and people will say he went down in instalments.

Howard is still in the team because we don't have a better keeper in the squad and Roberto doesn't prioritize keepers. I agree that our defense is good enough to make Howard acceptable for now (forget last game), but this position needs to be addressed by next season.

Howard needs to go now he is a liability.
He is a coward and is scared to come for crosses.
