Tim Howard

I would love to have a new keeper, but that's secondary to bringing in a new #10, a new centre back, and with our current situation some left back cover would be nice as well.

It shouldn't be, the amount of goals from basic errors we are leaking should ensure that a GK is #1 priority. I'd rather let less in and score less. Martinez won't see it that way, but surely it's logical to start fixing the team up from the back first?

So far this season:

Shots on target: 18
Goals conceded: 4

22% of all shots on target have been goals, can't be bothered working out the league avarage, but if someone has a day to spare it would be good to compare.

A lot of shots on target seem to end up as goals agains us, might be just thinking it though, I have to admit I'm not his biggest fan.

What have I said that's indefensible? I acknowledged Howard was at fault for their first, my only point was that he made good saves before that which kept us in the game.

I didn't attack you for your footballing opinions though, it's for your general behavior. I disagree with loads of people on here civilly without insulting them, but you literally contribute nothing and solely try to wind people up on here.
Had no idea that calling a crap player crap was winding up.

He's crap. He's paid to make saves, he should have done better with both yesterday.

Although City deserved the win, and terrible defending led to the goals also.

New #10 - yeah, agreed that's super important.
CB - Assuming Mori goes through, I'd rather replace the GK than bring in a 3rd/4th choice CB.
LB - absolutely unnecessary. We are loaded at that position, we've just hit some bad luck.
Baines, Oviedo, Garbutt, Galloway in a pinch. But we should totally bring in a LB because of three injuries and a loan rather than address a serious, gaping hole in our starting XI.

Going into today it's a better rate then Cech, courtois, lloris, or Begovic. He's made one real error all season and he's made some very good saves even yesterday. His positioning has been better. It's all getting a bit tired. We were never not going to concede yesterday and he got little to no help from his defending on either goal. There's no such thing as a perfect keeper.

Do we need better? Yeah we do, but look around the league and you'll find errors almost every game from those deemed the top keepers in the league.

Yeah, as I said I've never been his biggest fan so I'm probably constantly looking at him negatively, the same way people do with Osman etc.

Lost track how many years i have been banging on about how awful howard, he's always been a liability and will just get worse.

Watching the RS tonight and chech proves how a good GK can save points and win you games ala Big Nev, Nigel Martyn. Not saying we will get one of those ilks but just a competent decent one would do for now as money is invisible as per usual.

He worries me to death and only saves shots that are right at him, even that freak world cup game was all shots straight at him!

He made two yesterday.

Near post, then closing his eyes and dropping his hands only to be chipped.

They should have scored either way, but those two goals were both goalkeeping errors. His saves were not spectacular. Let's not pretend like Howard is performing at an acceptable level for a team with ambitions of Europe. He has not done so since returning from Brazil.

Completely agree, spine of the team should be the priority and that starts with a goalkeeper. I think this comment from Brian Clough is on the money: “Shilton was the deciding factor. I’d have paid almost any price. A team with an OK goalkeeper is always looking over its shoulder. At the back of its mind, it’s thinking ‘it doesn’t matter what we do – the fella between the posts might make a mistake’. With Shilton in goal, it gave everyone else more confidence. It spread throughout the side. We were full of ourselves.”

Howard is an OK goalkeeper.

That's a whole lot of excuses and poor comparisons for me I'm sorry to say. I'm not worried what other goalkeeper's percentages are, I'm worried about what OUR goalkeeper is doing.

We'll just agree to disagree there I think.

Seaman, Schmeichel, Cech spring to mind. Backbones to title winning teams.
