Tim Howard

Had a decent game until the first goal yesterday, but that was a shocker. Didn't cover himself in glory with the second either.

We knew he was well on the downslope last season, piss poor from Martinez to not address it in the summer. There's no place for sentiment and he should have been packed off.
That's great if our club have a tradition of doing that, but look how many players even under DM we kept for an age who were long term crocks or just useless the list is endless even now we have players on our books on a wage who have been given contracts - all wage money down the drain, one is in court on September the 1st!
Its happened in the past AVM hardly kicked a ball in anger yet was always in serous trouble off the pitch apart from that years of contracts given out to players over 30?
Distans an example went to Bournemouth can not get a game, yet we paid him good money, Tim Howard along with Tony Hibbert, and Osman all contract extensions means they either play or sit on the bench or are injured it a drain on our finances.
Unfortunately if a Keeper makes a mistake its a goal, Howard made many good saves yesterday, but the one at the near post was a massive clanger, as he saved harder attempts for City to score, He has to get his concentration levels back or we are in trouble!
I always stated his positioning was poor but in the first half yesterday he had it spot on - he has stopped standing on his six yard box he was one of the main reasons we went in 0-0 at half time if he would have concentrated we may have drawn 0-0 - City attacked relentless in the 2nd half and that 1st goal was a bad mistake by him the 2nd goal well I think he had give up with our defence! No attempt to come out to the player which I have also pointed out he fails to command his box , and then not to lift his hands up to attempt to save the ball????
He should have had stronger competition years ago under DM when you look how we had John Ruddy and DM reckoned he was not up to it hurts even more imo!

to state how bad he is, kolarov's goal was no fluke. he side foot passed it into the goal form a 5 degree angle.

either he's watched many videos of howard letting it in before or he'd notice him do it a few times in the match and thought he'd try his luck. kolarov hasn't been given enough credit i don't think, but the fact he meant it is the most alarming thing.

I'm sure opposition players are told about Howard's weaknesses

All keepers are good at saving shots at all levels of the game. The difference is the mistakes he makes and Howard makes them every single game.
People keep saying this, but about a third of all shots on target in the Premier League end up as goals. That's including all the "bog standard" straight at the keeper shots. Stopping shots isn't automatic in the slightest.

Indeed, but it is their job. Saving shots that they should be saving is not having a good game. He was doing alright yesterday but as soon as he lets one in the way he did for the first he instantly goes into the having a bad game category because nothing he did previously or afterwards alters the fact that he cost us a goal due to being rubbish.

All goalies are good at saving shots though, thats why they are goalkeepers. Its like saying an outfield player is good because he can kick a ball. Its what they are supposed to do.

It's a team game, but goalkeepers are paid to stop the ball going in the net.

He failed on the first with a schoolboy error. The only mitigating factor for that is he should be relying on his defence to cope with any cross coming in ,and maybe he felt he had to cover both angles.

Second one he's in no mans land. If you're going to come out that far, then make yourself big, otherwise stay back closer to your line.

City deserved to win, but goalkeeping mistakes are much more costly than those made on other areas of the pitch, so standards have to be higher for keepers to make a difference.

Sadly Howard is rarely going to make much of a positive difference to our results. He'll have the odd good game, lots of average ones and quite a few poor ones. I reckon next Summer the keepers position will be given a higher priority, but, till then, our money will only go so far and so it's not a priority right now.

the thing which bugs me the most is that it wasn't even listed as a priority this summer. there are so many good keepers out there that wouldn't cost much. it's the only position in the starting XI apart from the playmaker that needs addressing. all the other business is squad fillers.

was hopeful in january when it looked like we were actually looking, but nah, i can't support martinez on this episode whatsoever - he's the worst keeper in the league and by a long way over these last two years.

makes me laugh how people misconstrue the fact that making saves (all of them are right at him by the way, these 'class' saves) that any goalkeeper in the premier league, never mind an international goalkeeper and someone who has played in the premier league for years should be making with their eyes closed, as having a good game.

Fact is he is so bad, that doing even simple stuff is seemed to be related to having a good game.

As soon as anything that is challenging but a top goalkeeper should make, he's ruined.

He's paid to keep us in games, and the hard saves is what he's there for. He just doesn't do it 99% of the time.

The overlapping full back when put through on a bad angle looked up to cross no one in there probably gave TH the idea a cross was on as TH dived away from his near post to save the cross leaving a gap which was hit with venom for that crucial goal, I though originally TH had left a gap i.e lost his position , but you can now see he was fooled by the goal scorer a crucial mistake sadly at a vital stage of the game, but City were piling on the pressure!
City yesterday looked the champions elect, TH has to keep his concentration making so many saves better than the first crucial goal the one he let in!
Our defence do not seem to like the way he rants at them either!

He'd have been fine, seeing as though there wasn't a single difficult save to make.
Come on that's being silly mate, the only differance with Joel being in goal is no one would be moaning about the loss right now, the one shot from Everton yesterday is far more concerning, or it should be.

If Barkley of Lukaku would of scored those exact same goals yesterday there isn't a single person on this thread that would be saying Hart should of stopped them, the credit would be going to the player.
