Is it a medical problem? I never realised seeing as everyone says it to him. sorry Gout.

Its not an anything problem, its mostly my Friends who make comments, cos you know, banter, where as your just trying to score points, you dont even realise that I dont take offence, hence the banter, with friends, if you insist on making hurtful and personal comments towards me, regardless of the validity of the insults, I shall be forced to request your removal from the forum.

If you think thats an empty threat, then please, be my guest and continue.

Wrong

How did you get the question mark upside down?

Not real sure I should respond to this drivel, but what I said was probably correct and beyond correct or not, is my opinion. You guys want a bad keeper, look at Villa where the other American is. The keeper's (or any position's really) nationality has nothing to do with my support of him or EFC. Though fellas like yourself make for company I would not want to keep.

I stand by my opinions on that goal. He could have had it with better positioning, but it wasn't only his fault. He played well aside from that. No player is perfect and the real goat of the game was Stones yesterday anyway- if you want to pick one out of a 4-1 romp. Which i do not.

Sorry Gout.

No particular need to debate the ability of Americans. We surely lag behind Europe and England in producing top class footballers. We fans can still love the game in general and the English one in particular.

That said, one of the two teams has advanced out of the group in the last two world cups and one has not. While our lads are subordinate in terms of skill the drop off is not as large as you would like to think.

he's still a solid shot stopper

He is still a world class shot stopper

good shot-stopper

Although some of those who say it may be doing so with caveats, this saying really, really, really grinds my beans.

Whilst he probably is better than a lot in the PL, a good shot stopper is the absolute bare minimum requirement for a goalkeeper.
It's like saying he's good at heading for a centre half. [Insert Per Kroldrup joke]

But having better than average reflexes to stop shots that others wouldn't get to is a quality he has. He made 7 saves in yesterday's game...a couple of which were fantastic.

I agree. This has never been an issue for me.

Regardless of nationality, I jugde a player on ability and suitability for Everton.

I do hope that folk can appreciate that I can criticise and indeed praise Tim Howard without seeing the need to bring nationality into it.

I agree, but some are still better than others, just like "good passing" is a bare minimum for a field player. My contention is that Howard blocks more than the average PL Keeper's share of "blockable" balls, whilst positioning himself out of a lesser number of balls an average PL keeper would be in position to block.

Tim Howard isn't the great keeper we hoped he'd be, and his overall time at Everton has justified why Ferguson let him go at United. He simply concedes too many goals that an above average Preniership keeper should save in my opinion. He doesn't command his box and whilst being a good shot-stopper his positioning and footwork leave a lot to be desired. Mate of mine is a goalkeeper coach at the Dark Side ( and he's not a kopite) and we discuss keepers performances every weekend - the view of Howard at Liverpool is that he's easily beaten from certain angles and his starting position gives the forward or person striking the ball an advantage.
Robles is young, but for me he is so much more commanding and an equally good shot stopper. For the minimal difference between them I'd personally go for the younger lad as he has potential to improve whilst Howard is in the twilight of his career. The MLS would be good for Tim and good for Everton IMHO.

Spot on Friend, good post.

Stevie G will probably buy Tim something nice when he leaves UK football to reflect the goals he's given him/them

I do think signing talented Americans on the US national team is a factor in any popularity we have here. But it obviously can't be a factor in who we sign. And I'm not sure what kind of impact US support is having on club revenues (probably minimal right?). Institutionally, we seem more invested in fostering support in South Asia.
