Timmy is a legend, now when i tell people in the states i support everton, they have an awesome reference point, not too long ago the only response i would get to that was "Who?" I love to hear players expressing their commitment to the team to the press like this, he really took the spotlight off himself and made it about Everton, you don't see that too often.

and on the subject of American keepers, a friend of mine isn't incredibly athletic, and has never played organized soccer, but he's played baseball his whole life. One time when we were shooting around we convinced him to play keeper for a little while, and he picked it up almost immediately. A big part of baseball is being able to read the speed and direction of a very very fast ball while is in mid flight, he thinks his experience with that helped him a lot.

I certainly think that baseball is a fantastic grounding for keepers. Im only 5 foot 5 but come from a gymnastics/trampolining background and that has helped over come my height problem. But, when I play and sport involving the batting of a ball, ie baseball, cricket etc, I usually find I pick it up easily.

Tim Howard is actually a very good technical keeper that many people miss. That he has had to pick up along the way and will not come from any other sport. He (despite what others say) commands his box better than most keepers, communicates very well with his defence and on top of that his positioning is spot on. Its very easy to blame a keeper for not communicating, and always happens when there is a mix up. Commentators always say there was no shout from the keeper. Defenders often ignore a shout and thats where the mix ups happen. Just looks bad on the keeper and have seen Timmy accused of lack of communication time and time again.

That's exactly what Neville Southall said, and he's usually very honest when juding our goalkeepers, he tells it like it is and knows what he's talking about. I think the area Howard really needs to focus on is his distribution, which is pretty average in all honesty. But other than that, very solid keeper, one of the best in English football at present.

Totally agree. Gordon Banks very recently was speaking very highly of Tim. Two of the games greats talking about our Tim. If that's not a glowing endorsement of our Tim then I don't know what he needs to do before he gets recognition from his own fans!
