Did you all fly directly to Liverpool or is it cheaper to fly to a larger airport then travel? What was your general plan and average total cost? Trying to plan a trip for next year to see a match at Goodison

Not a Yank but I think you'll find it far easier to fly into Manchester (then train to Lime St.). Even from central Europe with occasional direct flights to Liverpool, the times, prices, and availability tend to be far better to Manchester. (Try Skyscanner to get an idea of the options.)

Not sure if many airline fly direct to John Lennon. I'd suggest flying to Manchester Airport direct and the train to Liverpool is your best bet.

When are you planning on coming over?

I flew AAL to Manchester. I think you're either flying to Manchester or London. Depending on the carrier you could have huge taxes; BA through AAL's codeshare had an additional $300 or so per ticket tax (same ticket price, but different tariffs). Just do some research or call, you only have a few options, unless you have a lot of departure options.

Also, get a mileage credit card and make sure you do what's needed to the the 30,000/50,000 free miles. For only $85/$125 a year, these come in handy for a free international ticket if you've exceeded the miles needed.

Manchester will be the airport, or one of the London airports and have a few days sightseeing and come up to heaven and be with nice people.

Thanks everyone! Hoping to make it over sometime next season. Finances permitted of course. Not sure how those mileage credit cards work tbh, I've always paid my bills with a debit card. Always was cautious so I didnt go into debt during uni haha.

I wouldn't bother mate.

As a expat Brit that goes home to Liverpool, I'd say fly direct to Manchester if possible, connections have caused trouble with me or my family about 25% of the time. Train is from the airport and goes to Lime street or if you rent a car it's a half hour drive depending on time of day.
Don't go to Heathrow even if it's cheaper than Manchester and you'd bus it up(actually not bad and fairly cheap) as Heathrow is an arse-ache of an airport.
And deffo stay in the city centre, "travelodgey" type places there and with fair prices means you can go out drinking in town and walk back

Can you imagine the same thread on Rawk? The question would be "anyone know how I can make a boat to row across the Atlantic carrying a 5 times flag that can be seen from space"

Excellent advice above from Layne and SerenityNigh, I would fly into Manchester and train to Lime St., then get lodged in city center and enjoy Liverpool. If you're lucky you can find another blue and hit a pub filled with Kopites to watch the RS drop one to West Ham like I did. Oh, the things you'll hear...

Mersey rail plus the soccerbus will get you to and from Goodison. Take time to take a walkabout in Walton on game day, and you'll really understand what Everton is really all about. You won't have much trouble talking to blues if you put on the blue jersey and sound like a Yank. They'll take it from there.

I'm hoping to get to a couple of games at the end of the year (coming from Australia). Found out the train from London to Liverpool is cheap and only a couple of hours, so assuming London is cheaper to fly into than Manchester, that would be my choice.
