Mickey Thomas says the current Scotland team is the worst he has ever seen and predicts a Wales victory in Friday's World Cup qualifier in Glasgow.

Former Wales and Manchester United midfielder Thomas says the Scots are a shadow of "great" teams of the past.

Scotland, who lost to Wales in October, are bottom of Group A having failed to win any of their four matches.

"Wales should go there and get a victory, whether [Gareth] Bale is in the side or not," said Thomas.

"Make no mistake about it - this Scotland team is the worst Scotland team they've ever had.

"I played against the likes of [Kenny] Dalglish, [Graeme] Souness and [Alan] Hansen. They were a great team - they don't have that no more. They haven't got a top player.

"We saw in Cardiff, they have nothing really of quality to hurt [Wales]."

Theres the Scotland team talk sorted

To be fair though, The Scotland team of the 70's would DESTROY this current Scottish squad.

I don't know what Scotland can do to improve their national team but I hope they think of something. The SPL being dominated by 2 teams (who also hate each other) has really done a number on their national squad. I'm sure part of the reason they've struggled in the past is because the Rangers and Celtic players don't get along

He's not wrong. Over realliance on older established players who haven't delivered in years, Miller, Caldwell, etc...

I'd go with

McGregor

Hutton Webster Mulgrew Wallace

Snodgrass Brown McArthur Mackay-Steven

Griffiths Fletcher

Time to look to the next Euro campaign.

It's certainly a poor Scotland team, but its not even the worst Scotland team that I've seen.

Thomas comes across as a bit of a tube, given that Scotland bossed the first half in Cardiff, and fell apart when Levein inexplicably replaced Brown with Adam, leaving a gaping hole in the middle of the park.

Jock, I'd still be going with Caldwell over Webster. For all Caldwell's failings, Webster is horribly inconsistent, and was gubbed by Steven Thompson in the cup final at the weekend. Now, I like Steven Thompson, he's a good, solid SPL player, but Webster didn't get near him.

really the question is who is scotlands biggest grock? and how do we get him to take out gareth bale?

Aye, he doesn't seem to cope with big physical strikers.

Embarrassing that Caldwell is our first pick at centre half. He's utter turd.

If English football is often regarded as 'in crisis' or for lacking technically giftend players coached appropriately from the grassroots then the odds are the Scots are in a worse position. Not being snidey, but England, with its so called 'best league in the world', mega money in the game and 'better players' are far from brilliant. So what chance do the Scots with their underfunded declining league (with few exports to 'better leagues') have?
