I think it's more down to a 'drill baby drill' attitude...whatever the consequences of drilling that far out and deep down. It's a matter of: "Oh look, we fcuked up. Now we have to think about the wisdom of the action".
Money trumps rational thought
As most of you know, I cycle everywhere. I suspect I am very much in a minority in living without a car though. Could those that replied to this thread do without petrol?
I'm quite surprised they haven't used this as excuse to increase petrol prices, an Arab in the east farts too close to a pipeline and we get stung for 40p extra!
But yes, incredibly sad - when do we know if this ' Top kill ' has worked?
Would be difficult, being's how I live in a small town 30 miles from anything of importance.. Alternate fuel would be nice.. but there is money to be made in crude..

If it meant so much could you not get in your car and drive somewhere more suitable for your eco friendly lifestyle? This is what I see an increasing amount when talking to people about this. Everyone wants to be green, but very few actually make the difficult choices required to be green. Much easier to blame others.
