Third place - can we close the gap?

They really do, but I think they've lost the plot a bit. Caputulated so much against us on Sunday. A decent enough finish could see us sneak it.

Most of Arsenals defeats have come against the top 7.

They will drop hardly any points in the run in, we simply need to do the same, City at Home and Southampton away are my main concerns, I mean clearly we are Everton, so Palace at Home should be feared, but we are bang in form and form will always take you a long way in football.

3rd 3rd are you serious? Man that would be an epic fail....Champions or bust without doubt

Win 6
Lpool d2 l3
City D1 L5
Chelsea D1 L5

Easy

Third would be something to think about if we get past the Southampton game. I actually believe Crystal Palace will be a more difficult game than ManU, as Pulis will (as ever) have his team setup to not lose. ManU might actually attack the game, depending on how they are doing, or simply to avenge that loss at OT... With both games in that week, I see a dropping of points somewhere in there. If it comes time for the Man City game and the possibility is there, then it's time to dream of third.

Afternoon lads,
I seem to be thinking about Roberto's team all the time now...and am probably over analysing things but here's a thought....and for now we need to assume that we will win all our games....

City are seven points clear of us and have a game in hand over us but have to play Liverpool and us. Both are games that they could lose. That would close the gap to 1 point, possibly still with a game in hand.

Chelsea will be six points clear of us when we have won our game in hand over them...and they still have to play Liverpool which they could lose. That would mean a three point gap. Also, Chelsea might not be up for a real scrap against those teams while they are now still in the Champions League as winning that is probably more important to Jose Mourinho than second or third or fourth in the league.

Both City and Chelsea still also have to play teams that are in the midst of a relegation battle and will fight for every point from now on, or be consigned to relegation. They could lose points...maybe a couple of draws along the way.

I realise that I am jumping the gun and that we have to concentrate on staying ahead of Spurs and getting in front of Arsenal (and then staying there) but consiedring how we have closed the gap on Arsenal recently I wonder if we can close in on third place too and not have to play a CL qualifier??

Maybe I am being wildly optimistic, and that's our little Spanish manager's fault!

ffs, why are the sh*te exempt from this? if they loose to city and chelsea (very likely) then there will only be 2 points between us....

We could finish 6th or 3rd. I don't think it's wild speculation, I"ve actually run the numbers on 3rd myself. Chelsea is the most likely to fall back with their CL games in the middle of this run in.

As we all know we need to focus on winning out and it's a moot point, we finish no lower than 4th. But if we do win out, and either Chelsea or City start to wobble...momentum is a funny thing.

Will Chelsea be more focused on the CL than the league?
