Third place - can we close the gap?

Nil Satis ‘n’ all that
Afternoon lads,
I seem to be thinking about Roberto's team all the time now...and am probably over analysing things but here's a thought....and for now we need to assume that we will win all our games....

City are seven points clear of us and have a game in hand over us but have to play Liverpool and us. Both are games that they could lose. That would close the gap to 1 point, possibly still with a game in hand.

Chelsea will be six points clear of us when we have won our game in hand over them...and they still have to play Liverpool which they could lose. That would mean a three point gap. Also, Chelsea might not be up for a real scrap against those teams while they are now still in the Champions League as winning that is probably more important to Jose Mourinho than second or third or fourth in the league.

Both City and Chelsea still also have to play teams that are in the midst of a relegation battle and will fight for every point from now on, or be consigned to relegation. They could lose points...maybe a couple of draws along the way.

I realise that I am jumping the gun and that we have to concentrate on staying ahead of Spurs and getting in front of Arsenal (and then staying there) but consiedring how we have closed the gap on Arsenal recently I wonder if we can close in on third place too and not have to play a CL qualifier??

Maybe I am being wildly optimistic, and that's our little Spanish manager's fault!

I don't even think we'll get 4th mate!!

(Hopeful but can't see it)
Ijjy mate...I thought you were always positive about such things.

You are right though...the battle for fourth is the real one and it will be tough. My point was really that if we could catch Arsenal then maybe we do go even further than that. I agree a tad unlikely though in reality.

Mayhaps a Chelsea in the Champions League finals distracts them from their league business in pursuit of the big crown and we're be to overtake them?

And then Citeh will drive home hard (except for a hiccup against us) with the RS offense going cold and their weak backline being exposed?

And after how many years of being out in the woods we can all see some Champions League group stage action?

I'll keep dreaming, but the difference now is that it's actually attainable.

Its deffo on lads :)

After we batter City and United at Goodison, City will start to melt as the league will be off and they have nothing to play for. Bobby will have the boys steaming and the press won't even be talking about us. We will strike on the last day with Jela scoring a purposeful own goal to see us third....

I'm ITK, you heard it here first.
