2025/26 Thierno Barry

Not saying he’s ever going to reach the same level but maybe important to note that even Thierry Henry struggled when moving to prem.

It took him 8 games before he scored and even then he didn’t really get going until Christmas.

Numerous interviews in which he has spoken about the difficulty in adapting.

Pretty sure Berkamp and Drogba had similar issues.

Again, not saying he’s going to reach those heights. Merely pointing out that it can take even the most talented players time to adjust.

Unfortunately we’re not a patient or forgiving fan base. One of the reasons I find it hysterical when people on here claim we should follow a similar model to teams like Brighton, despite us never in a million years being prepared to giving signings time.

It depends which way you look at it with patience to be fair. If you look at stuff on here or twitter then yeah we're definitely not patient, but at the game it's a different thing. I was saying the other day, I was surprised to hear that there had been a negative reaction to Beto against West ham because that just hasn't really happened before at the game despite him being generally useless for 2 1/2 years. Barry will plenty of patience from matchgoing fans if he puts the effort in, he'll get criticised online by fans of whoever he plays for, that's just life.

I completely understand the points about him being young and needing time to adapt .

My major concern is that he doesn't seem that motivated or that he's trying to bust a guy when he gets the chance to play

Im not sure it’s a lack of motivation. The ask of Barry and Beto on Sunday would have been completely different.

Moyes will have given Barry instructions based on how we could win the game from a starting point of 0-0. He might have been told to keep to certain areas of the pitch, only press at certain times etc.

Beto comes on a 0-1 and the gameplan has changed. Much more direct, faster, putting pressure on etc.

Equally I think it’s part of the reason Beto was criticised against West Ham. He looked similarly disinterested. Didnt close down as much. And as pointed out by @Lanolin the fans weren’t happy.

It can’t be a coincidence that both players but similar first half performances in.

I think it’s much easier to look interested chasing a game at 1 down and it’s getting much more chaotic and less tactical.

Not going fully defend him as he needs to not let frustration get to him and keep putting in the work. The lack of attacking fb and still feel need more midfield runners to get crosses into the box amd also help support him more. I think have a good player in him just going have to give him time. Was why we needed another striker the last window

Mate Henry and bergkamp were already top class players when they came here. Henry had just won the world cup with France and Bergkamp had something like 100 goals in 180 games with Ajax on his CV.

There is a massive difference in what Brighton do and what Everton do or have done. Brighton recruit players specifically to suit their style. If ever there was a classic example of that its neal maupay. They knew what their expectations were when signing Maupay. He didnt need time. They bought him ready to go. I can remember when we went to sign him 90% possibly of this forum said he wasnt the type of player we needed.

Its hard to tell with Barry at the moment but also going back to your Brighton comment. They also buy proven league strikers like Danny welbeck so they can bed in signings. They are not totaly reliant on new signings having to perform out the gate.
Theres no guarentee on any signing but he clearly looks time is needed. The issue now is what i said earlier. It was so bad on sunday he had to be hooked at HT. Results have to come first. We're not gona keep him on just to give him more game time.

Alcaraz playing would probably suit him better, as he will be quicker in the play, if there's a quick through ball on he will instinctly look for that, rather than slowing down the attack and having more players back.

He does need time, but he also needs to show something..

Exactly my point. Proven top class players who struggled to adapt to the league at first. Yet we expect Barry to just hit the ground running?

No one disagrees he needed hooking at half time on Sunday. But also doesn’t mean we need to write him off like some people are.

Even refererring to Bergkamp, Drogba and the cheating rat Henry in the same post as Barry is laughable!

I've been wrong loads of times but for me he just doesn't seem to have the mentality or nastiness. Can excuse him for not being ready ability wise but testosterone should be bursting.
