2025/26 Thierno Barry

He was just an example of a player within our price range that ive seen as an outside observer. He might sink without a trace but he's bagged 4 goals in two cup games and he might be their longer term answer for chris wood. I dunno. Not that interested in forest. I just watched him and was that impressed with him against betis i looked him up. And saw he was £10m.
We payed 15m for Chermiti and i cant even tell you anything about him.
All about better recruitment.
There are probably loads of strikers we could buy for less than £20 million that turn out to be better than Barry. The hard part is identifying them. It's really easy in hindsight to point at a striker that does well and proves to be good value and say we should have bought him but it's just hindsight. Everyone on here looked at Barry and thought that's the type we should be buying.

I agree £30m won’t get you the perfect profile for a striker, ie guaranteed goals and a future resale value, but defo does get you a proven scorer, maybe at the end of their career, but for me that’s less of a gamble than £30m on a prospect. With our track record that is more likely to fail than be a success. We need goals now, not fingers crossed they will come (imo)

As for other positions, £30 gets you a lot more value than strikers. KDH who was a well proven player was £27m after all.
KDH was that well proven. He's played two seasons as a starter in the premier league for a club that got relegated. He's hardly Gareth Barry.

Feel like we have another Moise Kean situation on our hands......

Well done Everton.

Yup!

Astonishingly poor recruitment!

I think it's 100% fair to both say

1. He looks absolutely garbage at the moment and a gigantic waste of money

and

2. He might have potential to develop into a good player

Everton FC is not the club that can afford to wait around for a £30m signing to turn into a top player when there is nobody else currently better than him in the squad.

Therefore, awful signing.

I obviously wouldn’t directly call anybody stupid as that’s against forum rules

But I can advise these posts make you look like stupid impatient people who are examples of the worst part of football fandom

Obviously you might not be, and this may not have been your intention, but i thought I’d give you a heads up in case you made a mistake

Butters and bully, our best minds at work

Don’t people get tired of this crap every time a new signing fails to catch fire from the off

He could have a great game on Sunday, and people would be revising their opinion on him and would still be dumb

The problem stems from it being a position we're really lacking in. Back in the day, you could have Baines and Pienaar sit on the bench for a few months because we had enough to still play well.

My biggest worry is that he just doesn't look happy here. Young lad, new league, new country... It happens. Can we really afford it to happen with it being £30m? Not really but that's how these things have generally gone for us in recent years.

I personally believe all £20m plus transfers should come with a returns policy of 90 days from their first competitive game. Maybe with each passing game, regardless of if he's selected to play, you lose 5% of the fee that you paid. That would prevent such reckless signings like this.

Makes you look stupid when you clearly misinterpret a post.

But I won't directly you call it because it is against forum rules.

Cant say i did to be honest as i knew very little of him. Nah scrap that. Knew nothing of him.
The thing surrounding this lad is getting ridiculous aready. I suppose its a day and age thing now as im seeing on social media stuff about stop abusing him regarding his instagram post. Yet seeing literally nothing to suggest anyone is. Social media melodramatic drama queen stuff? Who knows.
Give him a run of games. See if he's got anything to offer. And go from there.

If we played the type of football that suited his game. Slow build from our back four with the inevitable punt forward isn't helping the lad. But then with his lack of energy and ability to press opposition defenders he isn't helping himself.

Most of that's fine, but us being desperate for a striker, having a bad track record in this regard and whether we could really have afforded the 30mil has zero to do with the player. Doesn't change that he is young and new to the league, and that we have all seen a million times before players taking time to settle in to the PL.

I don't think we can assume anything from his expression or body language. The forum is full of people assuming this and that due to how somebody looks, and it's normally not relevant at all.

It's not his body language so much as his lack of effort closing down defenders. He's only played for half games or less,it's not as if he needs to conserve energy. All strikers go through bad patches and his being new to the division you'd expect that, but there's no excuse for not leaving it all on the pitch. He's a big unit so should start play like one.
