Not gonna call the lad, he's been good for us thus far but he's going through a bit of a poor patch last few games. Think we should start with Bernard or Lookman ahead of him next game on the right and bring Tosun or DCL in through the middle. Worse case scneario there is we have a really pacey winger to bring off the bench.

The thing that frustrates me most about Theo is that the fastest man on the pitch seems so reluctant to just run at defenders? If he did, he might lose the ball 50% of the time, but the other 50% he would lace them and terrify the opposition. The amount of times he doesn't seem willing to do that does my nut in, come on lad, you are lightning quick, use that pace for gods sake!

..I posted when he signed that my fear was that the game no longer mattered to him. It matters to Everton fans who continue to turn up and continue to be let down when visiting certain grounds.

A lack of motivation was my big concern also. It can't be easy for a player approaching the final stretch of his career to realise that he had fallen into the spare parts category at a big club and he knew he had to take a step down. It's why I respected Gareth Barry so much, even know the exact same thing happened to him he still approached every game for a middle of the table Everton side as he would a league winning City team.

Fans are right to be frustrated at Theo's effort, or lack of it, yesterday and shouldn't be called out for voicing this opinion as some self proclaimed experts have chosen to do so on this thread. At both ends of the pitch yesterday, a little more effort would have seen him have either great opportunities to score at the back post from great crosses and he would have prevented Martial's goal if he showed the proper desire to get back in position. He needs to do more, if he doesn't I have no doubts at all that Silva will pull him straight out of the team.

..spot on. The encouragement for me is that the new players generally seem to play like the game matters, even Richarlison and Bernard who didn’t play particularly well demonstrated attitude. It was a key ingredient of the mid-80s team and needs to be recreated if we are truly going to progress.

He should have squared it to Richarlison instead of attempting a shot, but he took up a great position when Bernard did the same.

Our attack seem to be collectively lacking confidence. Poor decision making when it counts & poor execution. Overall signs of improvement though, so hopefully that will continue.

I just don't think that's what he's good at though.

I mean, in terms of his close control, it's not really a strong point. He's better when he has no time to think, in all honesty, or he's running onto something.

I think a player like that is very useful to have, and at times in the first half yesterday he was a real threat with that pace in behind. His issues - for both goals - came when he had the ball with his back to their goal, and lost it, and then didn't work back.

So just because he's quick, doesn't mean that he should be the one running at players. He often runs into blind alleys, but in terms of his off-the-ball movement he's actually very good - he knows where to find space (i.e. that chance that Bernard missed, Walcott was the one who had busted a gut to get into that position for a cut-back).

Compare him to someone like Lookman, who has pace but likes to drive with the ball - Lookman is a player that I'd rather have running at a defender than Walcott.

I think he'll be rotated out against Brighton. Lookman deserves a go, but also the type of game just won't suit Walcott from the start imo. Brighton will sit deep so there'll be limited space in behind. It makes more sense to have Lookman running at them with the ball, than having Walcott try to move in behind to space that just won't be there.

When the game is stretched later on, that's the time to bring him on.

I don't think it's an underlying motivational issue, Eggs. At no point in his Everton career so far has he shown anything other than being fully motivated and willing to play in different systems.

He switched off yesterday and we were punished. I'm sure Silva will be onto that to ensure it doesn't happen again.

But plenty of players do it.

Richarlison did a fair bit of half-arsed pressing yesterday, but I don't think anyone would question his motivation.

..I think that’s fair, he has been decent for us in the main but they were basics yesterday that should almost be 2nd nature to a wide player in the modern game. He’s made a mistake and he’ll certainly know that’s the case.

While I agree it’s not an effort thing wnd more of a decision making thing, he’s not really a wide player to be fair at least in terms of a more traditional winger. He’s more of an inside forward type that can score goals. He’s not a great crosser of the ball, really. Frankly, that’s fine because Coleman is supposed to provide the width in our scheme. He just made some poor decisions and lacked a bit of class with his delivery yesterday. Coleman’s off day, at least poor first half didn’t help. Walcott continues to make runs and get himself in dangerous positions, which is more important. He’s inconsistent, but even the best players in his position can be. He’s still a good player, just maybe not an amazing one.

Despite only signing in January last year, he was probably one the players of the season.

People questioning his commitment need to give their heads a wobble.

He`s having a dip in form, it happens.
