The Wire vs Breaking Bad

They are very different shows though. If you like fast paced stuff, BB; if you like slower character building things, The Wire. I much prefer the latter.

Couldn't get into Breaking Bad at all and tried quite hard as so many people recommended it. (West Wing was another I 'failed' with.)

The Wire, on the other hand, is for me at the top of TV series, along with The Sopranos.

The Wire hands down. It was so real it felt more important than something like Breaking Bad, which is expertly crafted but ultimately just ridiculous, fictional entertainment.

Perhaps that's an unfair way to judge it but The Wire just ruined all other TV for me that tiny bit. BB is fantastic though. Probably the best use of suspense I've ever seen.

The West Wing was superb... imo

Never seen Breaking Bad, but I bloody LOVE The Wire. One of the very best things to ever be invented. It's just below Penicillin and above sliced bread

Both great but The Wire gets the nod as it's very obviously a landmark show - a milestone in crime drama. Don't think Breaking Bad is quite in that league [no slight on it, almost no TV is].
