As for the racism bit: it holds. Are you seriously suggesting it has no impact on the way the presidency is treated in some quarters at grassroots level? Really? There's only ever been 6 black senators - and three of them just lost their places, meaning zero African-American representation at that level of government...again. I'm not suggesting an apartheid state, but you're kidding yourself if you think it's a 'liberal' fig leaf.

Wow, To suggest that the number of blacks or whites in a given group is evidence of racism is to suggest that a black person or a white person is incapable of making decisions for the greater good of all citizens in the country and only capable of voting his race's interest. That would seem a racist position Dave. When I vote for my representative, I don't expect him to pass legislation that will benefit my race, merely do what is best for the country as a whole.

The racism thing for TxBill & TX Tiburon:

I cant believe this is an issue. You must both concede that it was a big deal during the '08 Presidential race (it was even a campaigning flashpoint in the Clinton v Obama race) - and that was just amongst the genteel political class. I'm not tarring all Americans with the racism brush; how could I, you both rightly point to Obama's landslide victory. I'm just saying it was/is a relevant factor for a large minority of people when they vote. Race has been the elephant in the drawing room for this Tea Party movement and they've managed to mobilise mass opposition.

I cant believe I have to reassert these self evident truths, tbh.

Well sure, there's always going to be some backwoods hick that won't vote for a minority candidate, no matter how qualified he or she is due to the racial differences. I'm not aware of the Tea Party movement advocating or condoning any sort of racial prejudice. In fact, I've never met a Republican or conservative who has openly admitted to me that race is an issue for them. If it was an issue, they kept it to themselves but I don't think I consort with people who have that sort of view.

The only thing I can point to in terms of race being a big deal in the '08 Presidential race was that ANY criticism of Obama's lack of experience, his political stances, etc... would be deemed by the left as racist. Face it. The media never asked Obama the tough questions during his campaign. In short, he got a free pass from the liberal media. The same liberal media that tried to sabotage Bush's run for a second term with the bogus Texas Air National Guard story.

Because you say that these truths are self evident just doesn't not make it so, no matter how many times you say it.
