The State Pension

The same should be said about furlough payments.
That still needs investigating.
My company abused it.
Every day in my place was classed as part holiday/rest/working.
10 billion fiddled - restaurants who had former EU workers still on the payroll & they had gone back home after Brexit claimed all their wages the Conservative Government only reclaimed 1 billion back - Labour stated they would get the rest back - they have not bothered ....

As for pensions older OAPs worked a 45 hour week 5 days & a Saturday morning paying NI - who remembers Labours Graduation pension ? where did my money go on that - my boss at the time stated I would never get it back ! he was spot on .....

That's a lot of pension payments, mate

As it stands you're better off on pension credit. My oldest friend was a film actor in his younger days so was in and out of work, doing bits here and there mostly in the black economy doubt he paid more than a handful of stamps in all those years. Now he's living rent free in a brand new high tech housing association property in a beautiful part of Norfolk.
Yes maybe, I've worked all my life but because of minimum wage I not paid NI for years, I've no idea if I can get full pension when I retire next May, the job centre told me not to worry as I would get pension credit if I haven't

Plus in my job loads of overtime 70-80 hours in the spring all NI & LG pension deducted from my wage packet plus I worked every other weekend even when I was a boss - Luckily I got my LG pension on the final salary scheme I paid 6% - they have now altered it to an average pay for all your working life @Eggs - made a big dent in all government pensions I expect the MPS are exempt -

Liz Truss will get a PMs pension for life something else Starmer stated he would stop .......

What other legal alterations would you like the current labour government to take a wrecking ball to?

Of course the beneficiaries of the errors, mistakes, fraud, back handers, bluff contracts, and all the rest, they'll sit still and just wait for justice to turn up. Won't they.

You're honestly better off. Can't believe people pay to top up their National Insurance contributions to get the basic State Pension when Pension Credit comes with rent and rates included.

Starmer stated it before becoming MP on both counts - to retrieve the billions in furlough money illegally clamed & Liz Truss pension for life as PM would be stopped - check it out ....
As usual its soundbites to get elected ..... He did not say NI raised for employers = killing growth or winter fuel payments cut - or attack the sick & disabled -

Typical all politicians are the same .... what ever party gets in .....

@Woolverhampton_Blue Exhibit A here. Final salary pension. Still wants a taxpayer funded benefit.

No problem, and I appreciate you may not have seen what happened. Brown raided pension funds which caused the collapse of final salary pensions. I was a Director within a very large Telecomms company, with the usual benefits of large salary, LTIP’s, and with hundreds of thousands of shares. Brown then decided to extract money from BT and other telecom providers by having an auction for 3G licences which reached about 20Bn. This of course meant that our customers, BT etc, stopped purchasing equipment which we provided while they replenished their cash. The net result was that the U.K. telecommunications manufacturers had to lay off tens of thousands of jobs both in the U.K. and USA, such that eventually the provision of equipment was given to China and Huawei, the U.K. Telecomms industry effectively died. Pensions were lost, pensions based on shares both in the U.K. and USA (via 407K) disappeared almost overnight. It was a complete shambles and cost the jobs and future pensions of tens of thousands of people lost their pensions and expected savings with shares. I don’t mean this as any sort of political statement, but that man single handedly ruined a profitable high technology company and basically gave it to the Chinese…..

Do you think that if the 3G licenses were given away for free or sold at much lower prices then the providers that got them wouldn't have looked to outside the UK to buy equipment if they figured it provided better value for money and greater profit?

Seems like a reach. Companies like that will always take the route that provides maximum profit. Sounds more like you ultimately couldn't compete with the likes of China.

That happened in multiple British industries that struggled to adapt to the changing global picture or fell foul of an increasingly unlevel playing field.

I'm sure it was definitely not an industry wide thing that brought down Marconi. After all, Lucent and Nortel both did amazingly in the same period :hayee:

Even became a case study at London Business School

No mention of the Blair government though. The same can't be said for really bad management.

Didn't he pay his full stamp then while self employed??, my neighbour 70 and he still goes out at 5 every morning to work on a building site. His wife told me he only gets the reduced pension, she did his books for years so imagine it's her fault as she didn't declare all his earnings.
Ye he paid a stamp monthly he gets about 200 a week not enough to live on really
