Everton manager David Moyes admits the impending departure of veteran Phil Neville has highlighted what a considerable rebuilding job has to be done at the club.

"I do think there is a big rebuilding job to go on at Everton," said Moyes.

"With Phil going that is a big piece of the jigsaw which will leave and if we make Europe we are going to have to find a way of bringing in five or six players because of the way your squad is affected.

"We have a few players getting near the end, we have a little bit of an ageing team

"We have not invested an awful lot over the last five or six years so we have to now be looking to see how we do that, how we get the team moving forward and get some younger players in as well as developing our own."

Quite surprised he's come out and said this to be honest. I wonder if the bold bit above will be the crux of him signing a new contract or not? As Kenwirght said it would literally be a 5 minute conversation...

DM: "Any money for new players Bill?"
BK: "No, but I'll remortgage my house again so can have £90k per week"
DM: "Hmm it's okay see you later, here's Neil Lennon's number."

Said it before, but there's no excuse not to spend money in the Summer. If Neville and Fellaini both leave we'll need 4 new players at least to push on.

I don't know about it being a job of rebuilding though, more of strengthening. The core of the squad is still good for another 2 or 3 years at least.

Would agree with the exception of Distin who's probably coming into his last season. Just my opinion like, but I think he'll start to decline next season.

If only Fellaini goes this summer, his fee plus his and Neville's wages should be enough to bring in at least 3 new faces of a standard that would improve us, plus maybe one or two squad players.

Am I reading this right? You want 3 players of Neville's standard? Woo hoo! Championship here we come!

Just looking through what most would regard as 'first teamers;, not saying i agree but team-sheets don't lie, so obviously its what moyes considers that matters most.

Osman - staring to look leggy as he does most years for a big part of the season, getting older - problems only gonna get worse,
Distan - can't go on forever - maybe another year left, maybe more, maybe will hi the wall, needs to be thought about sooner than after it happens though.
Neville - well he's going, thats one 'first teamer' deffo gone.
Felli - Think if any bid comes in from any CL team hes a gonner
Pinnear - another aging player, never the fastest he's already looking like he's on the decline this year
Jag's - prob got another 2 years left at the top of his game - barring another horror injury.
Howard - played ok recently, but god he looked shocking ealrier int he season, and mucha whilst having done a amazing job when required, isnt someone who any of us feel solid having as number 1
Gibson & Mirrales, both had injury issues that make you a bit squeaky bummed about not having back ups

throw in the fact that we have a few playing currently who simply for whatever reason, are not good enough (neville was one), naismith another, and heitanga this year another one of those.

Combine all this with the fact we are currently at least 2, probably more like 4 players down on what we realistically needed to avoid running everyone into the ground and we can see that we have a lot of holes that need filling and no youth that will be realistically given a chance to plug those needs.

You're obviously not reading it right then Scratcho, unless you think players of Neviles standard are

Sorry Jock, I was distracted at the chippy. Priorities. I think the question of how we can replace Phil Neville could deserve a thread all of its own. I don't know if Bungle has enough time for that one as well though.

Tbh i think we need to sell Fellaini this summer to have a chance of progressing!. Although new and improved money is coming into the league this season through the TV deal, most of what we get wont go towards a transfer kitty, it will be used for "operating" costs.

There must be a bit of money available as the board put some up in January on the strength of this new money coming in in the summer!. But you can be certain it wont be enough to buy the amount of players Moyesy will want without selling!.

So sell Felli for £20-£25m, add that to the bit of TV money we'll have to spend and go out and buy the 4 or 5 players we need to improve and strengthen!. If there's one thing Moyesy is good at, it's finding very good, cheap players!.
