The ozil situation

Player Valuation: £30m
Seems to be a problem we are having with a lot of players recently and short term contracts with a club option to extend have to be the way to go.

Although a footballer's career is short, I think ozil should have taken it on the chin and taken the wage cut. It Wouldn't surprise me if a new law came into football soon to allow clubs to shorten the contract if a player is underperforming. I mean he is literally taking 250k + a week from arsenal now until it expires and giving nothing in return.

How would you write that law? I just don't think there is any way to put that together and not have it be abused.

On a slightly different note, is Ozil even bad now? If he replaced James in our system we would be worse off, but I'm not sure we'd be that much worse off. He's still a good player and Arsenal as a squad don't have many of those.

He has made a statement: Interesting if true.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if Kreonke being the massive pile of horse dung that he is talked to some Chinese contacts after his comments and realized that losing the Chinese market was a big financial burden than having Ozil rot away. The NBA, which is way more popular in China, only just got back on Chinese TV after the Daryl Morey incident and that was after almost a year. My guess is Kreonke did the analysis and realized he could also pass of Ozil as underperforming to the neanderthal section of their support while saving his China money.

I just think him being outright dropped from a side playing in Europe that needs players to rotate is nonsensical.

The suggestion is that there is a clause in the contract, that is triggered if he plays, paying him a heap of cash.

Make a great thriller involving Nazis, a secret only known to the Vatican, and some grizzled ex special forces treasure hunters.

Little sympathy for Arsenal, they were happy to offer that contract to keep hold of him, at that time, if they've overpaid, that's their fault. They've made savings making their mascot redundant anyway. :)

Like an appearance number clause? Or does it genuinely just say if he plays in x season he gets x amount? I don't get it.

Could be anything mate. Modern contracts are like small novels.

Could be appearances = more cash. Or an extension.

It might be that a payment for image rights is triggered.

Or it could be that Arteta reckons he has no need for him in his team, but like you, am surprised he hasnt made at the EL squad. Hence, the suggestion that its contract related.
