The Oldies Thread

Spare the rod, spoil the child. I had similar. Fear of the strap was much greater than actually receiving it, I eventually discovered. And it stopped a lot of little shoits acting like little shoits as I recall.
Detention was always the thing I dreaded most I wasn't really arsed about physical punishments as it was just part of normal school day.

Me too. Detentions usually meant you had to tell your parents, or rather, they knew cos you were late home from school.
That was the old days, with proper parents who parented their children.

Just before i'd had enough and quit, it was becoming quite common for angry parents to phone up the school complaining how inconvenient it was for them, to have to pick their little scrote up at a later time.

My response was something along the lines of 'Good, I'm glad it bothers you. Perhaps you'll have a word with him and tell him to behave in a way that doesn't inconvenience you in the future.'

It was a dose of the truth, but not PC enough for our modern headmaster. lol

My mum and dad only went to my school once the day I was expelled.
But I prefer to say I resigned

Cant ever remember my Dad going to my school, cos he worked away during the week. Ironically, he became a Governor of one of them soon after he retired! (The Head was a mate and Blue).

My Mum was bang on it though. Didnt appreciate it at the time, but looking back, was good. Why I have always tried to be at my lads school stuff when he was there. (Same school as me, which was kinda sound).

I have tickets for OMD's 40th anniversary tour. 40 years!!! I think I was there almost at the beginning- saw them for the first time at Liverpool university Fresher's Ball, possibly 1979 or 1980. Decided to watch them on their ( and mine) home turf rather than up here. So I'll be at The Empire on Nov 4th.

Similarly my daughter ( aged 21) came home from work and said "Hey Mum, the Aaah Vienna people are touring. My boss is going" Tickets now purchased for Midge Ure!
I loved them back in the day. Messages was always a favourite.
