It was a right con the shopkeepers had a field day....also learning £ S D at school was a painful experience like feet and inches ......
TBF Woking in tens decimal was easy, but if you had the other method drilled into you it was hard to convert......

Don't remember the price of ale doubling. However, there is no doubt that decimalisation contributed to the massive hike in inflation.

£ S D was around when I was born in 1965. I can't remember it, though . I've only REALLY known the 100p in the pound . But i remember getting 10p off your mum or dad for the shop was a LOT of money for sweets

I left school n 1969 after learning to calculate Pounds Shillings and Pence, not to mention Feet and Inches, pints and gallons etc
The money thing kind of sorted itself out through daily use, but I STILL can not think in terms of Metres and Litres etc. I still have to convert everything to 'inches' or 'pints'
Just grateful that I can still go for a few pints wiyhout asking for 3 /4 of a Litre or whatever it is. lol

I had a mixed up selection of subbeteo players as a youngster.some had been stood on and glued back together.my brother in law gave me his old set and they were made of card on the plstic base.i called them my 'all stars" team.
....I lived in Everton and we used to climb lots, especially in the derelict houses. We’d have a run through all the lofts by smashing holes in the wall and would go up on the roofs. Amazing to think of allowing kids to do that these days.
Dens for us were built out of old doors and usually stood on the ollers.
